What is active imagination? Practice conscious immersion in a state of anxiety Return to reality.
Sometimes traveling into the depths of your own mind is a great way to boost your mental strength. Immersion in yourself helps to liberate your thinking, collect your thoughts and concentrate on the current moment. Learn to go introspective to boost your creativity and channel your imagination.
StepsPart 1
Free your mindPractice deep belly breathing. Breathing exercises are great for coping with stress. Deep breathing allows you to activate the body's natural response to stress. This method can be used daily to prevent stress or overcome stressful situations that have already arisen.
Take up mindfulness meditation. There are many various types meditation. Mindfulness meditation helps you feel better about your body and the world around us. Practice this type of meditation daily until you can stretch the achieved state of mind over longer periods of time, up to a whole day.
Conjure up visual images in your mind. Visualization, or imagining images, is effective method, which allows you to escape from stress and current problems, strengthen your fortitude and achieve inner peace. With words and visual images you can create the desired mood.
- For example, you could sit in a quiet place with no distractions and conjure up a peaceful landscape. Imagine, for example, that you are lying on the seashore. Feel the soft sand, the gentle rays of the sun on your face and the soothing sound of the surf. Try to connect at least three senses. This will allow you to relax as if you were actually lying on a warm beach.
Try to practice self-hypnosis more often. Self-hypnosis is an art; to achieve it b O At higher altitudes, practice is required. Remember that at any time you can mentally visit your favorite place, relax there and restore peace of mind - the imaginary staircase is always open.
Part 3
Change your perceptionAppreciate the world around you. Enjoy pleasant things more often. From time to time, take a break from the current bustle and pay attention to the beauty around you. Learn to appreciate what you have been given, and your life will sparkle with new bright colors.
Let go of your preconceptions. None of us are immune from biased and biased judgments. We judge something based on our views and beliefs. This often leads to incorrect and prejudiced attitudes towards various people and situations.
- If you find yourself making too hasty an opinion about a person or event, try looking at the issue again, more carefully. Is your judgment based on hard facts? Review your initial opinion. Keep in mind that everything is usually much more complicated than it might seem at first glance.
- For example, you may have heard complaints from your neighbors about a juvenile “bully” on your block, and therefore you avoid him. However, one day you may see how it helps elderly woman carry a heavy bag. At the same time, the teenager behaves very politely. After such an observation, you will not shy away from him, you will begin to greet him and discover that the opinion of your neighbors does not correspond to reality.
Imagine your future life. Perhaps you would like to radically change your environment, because your current life seems boring and colorless to you. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of dreaming big - it will expand your horizons and allow you to enjoy life. Give free rein to your imagination and dream about the future.
Create an action plan that will help you realize your dreams. Develop a clear plan to achieve your goals. Write down all the main goals you would like to achieve and think about what steps you should take to achieve this.
Part 4
Let your imagination run wildKeep a diary. This great way immerse yourself: take a pen and notepad and commit your innermost thoughts to paper. A journal will help you sort through your feelings, recognize and understand hidden desires, and cope with stress.
- Spend 20-30 minutes a day in your diary. You can simply record the events of the past day, note personal growth, and so on, at your discretion.
Enter the depths of the subconscious! This will give you the opportunity to remove internal blocks and restrictions, fulfill any desires and travel through parallel worlds!
The practice of entering the depths of the subconsciousIf at any stage of the practice described below you fall asleep, do not worry about it.
When you wake up and realize that you have fallen asleep, you can continue your journey into your inner Universe from where you left off...
Your task at this level of practice is to go through all the stages of the inner journey in full awareness and not lose the chain of conscious events.
At first this may seem quite difficult, but with practice you will get better and better at it.
So, let's begin to master the internal trance and enter the depths of the subconsciousThis method allows you to enter the deepest states of internal trance¹. At each stage, various phenomena may manifest in the form of clairvoyant visions, revelations, auditory effects, astral exit and levitation².
This state must be mastered, since on its basis many exercises can be built to realize superpowers, fulfill desires and simply gain extraordinary experience.
Stage one - preparatoryThe work is carried out in a ventilated room in complete darkness or twilight; you can light a candle and sandalwood incense (optional).
1. Eliminate all distractions, turn off your cell phone, and ask family members not to disturb you during this time.
If the house is noisy, buy earplugs from the pharmacy. If the room is bright, you can use a dark fabric rest mask (available in pharmacies) that will tightly cover your eyes from the light.
2. Lie down on a flat, hard surface—it’s best to lay a blanket or rug on the floor, with your spine straight and no pillow. If you feel cold, cover yourself with a blanket or rug.
3. Take the “corpse pose” position: lying on your back, arms along your body, palms pressed to the floor.
4. Eyes open and looking straight ahead with a motionless and indifferent gaze - 5 seconds.
5. Close your eyes, take three deep breaths, hold your breath for a while.
6. Give yourself a mental attitude:
“Now, in a completely conscious state, I will enter a deep trance into the depths of my subconscious. I will do all the work I need to do in this deep state. When all the subconscious work is completed, I will come out of this state and feel completely rested, joyful and energetic, and all my intentions will be fulfilled.”
Stage two – trance breathing1. Start breathing slowly and consciously, making sure that there are no gaps between inhalation and exhalation.
2. Inhalation smoothly turns into exhalation, and exhalation into inhalation, there is not a second of delay between them, as in a circular motion.
3. As you inhale, mentally pronounce the drawn-out O-O-O-M-M-M..., while exhaling, the drawn-out M-M-M-O-O-O....
4. Be extremely careful and make sure that there is not the slightest gap between inhalation and exhalation.
5. Continue to breathe continuously for 10-15 minutes until you feel numbness in the limbs of the body and a state of extreme lightness.
6. When the feeling of complete stillness, peace, lightness and numbness has arrived, you can move on to the next step.
Stage three - relaxation1. Focus all your attention on the muscles and organs of your body.
2. Feel all your muscles and internal organs.
3. Now mentally, starting from the head and facial muscles and ending with the feet, say:
“The top of my head is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, the back of my head is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My forehead completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes, my eyelids completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes..."
“My pupils completely relax, completely relax, relax, my cheeks completely relax, completely relax, relax. My nose completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. My chin completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. My tongue completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes, my jaw completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes..."
“My face completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes, my head completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes...”
“My brain completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes, my neck completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. My shoulders are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my chest is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My heart completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. My lungs completely relax, completely relax, relax. My stomach is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my liver is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My pancreas is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my stomach is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My bowels are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my kidneys are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My spleen is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My arms are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My palms completely relax, completely relax, relax. My fingers completely relax, completely relax, relax. My pelvis is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my hips are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My genitals are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my crotch is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My anus is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my buttocks are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My legs are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my knees are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My shin completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. My feet completely relax, completely relax, relax. My toes are completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
“My whole body, from head to toe, completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes...”
“My body completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes, my organs completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes.”
"My etheric body completely relaxing, completely relaxing, relaxing, my astral body is completely relaxing, completely relaxing, relaxing..."
“My mental body is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed, my causal body is completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed. My mind completely relaxes, completely relaxes, relaxes. I'm completely relaxed, completely relaxed, relaxed..."
4. Repeat these formulas until you lose the sensation of your physical body.
5. At this stage, you need to stop swallowing saliva to further go deeper into trance.
Stage four - immersionAt this stage of internal trance, you will plunge into the depths of the subconscious, so that then, while in this state, you can carry out paranormal work.
1. Now imagine that you are in complete darkness, and a ray of light falls from above, illuminating the steps leading into the very depths of your inner darkness.
2. Start going down these steps, mentally saying OM-1, OM-2, OM-3, OM-4 with each step...
3. Descend deeper and deeper along the steps leading into your being. Count every step. You should have 108 steps. The main thing here is to maintain attention and awareness while walking along each of the 108 steps.
4. Descend into the deepest darkness, walk boldly, this area of your being is completely safe and comfortable.
5. Feel this coziness, warmth and comfort. There is only you and your inner world here.
6. When you feel that external stimuli and sounds have gone very far from you, and you are in some kind of semi-delirious state, you can move on to the next stage of trance. The main thing is to maintain the chain of awareness and maintain complete control over your consciousness.
Warning! In the process of immersing yourself in your inner world, going down the steps of an imaginary staircase, you can receive various extraordinary experiences or switch off. These are obstacles or clues.
Your task is to overcome all obstacles and go through all 108 steps of your inner ladder in full awareness, only then will you be able to enter the colorful world of your subconscious.
Think of this journey as a multi-level computer game of your virtual inner world, set the goal to complete all levels to the end in full awareness.
Stage five – the gate of the subconscious1. At the fifth stage of internal trance, you need to imagine that you have already descended very, very deeply. The light almost completely disappeared and it became dark. Look ahead...
2. There is a large door in front of you, and this door is closed.
This is a door from your subconscious and your personal inner Universe (each person may have his own image of the door).
3. Look to the right - the door key is hanging on the wall, take it and open the door. To open this door, insert the key and turn it counterclockwise. Now open the door slightly.
4. When the door is open, do not rush to enter it.
Feel the warm breeze and dim light streaming through the crack of the door.
5. Now slowly open the door and enter it.
The door must be locked behind you. To close the door, insert the key into the keyhole and turn it clockwise. Take the key with you by hanging it around your neck.
6. You find yourself in a very long and narrow greenish tunnel, at the end of which you see a dazzling greenish light.
In this tunnel you can already fly...
7. Fly slowly towards the end of this tunnel, aware of how the oncoming warm breeze caresses your face.
Stage six – mystical mirror1. You continue to enjoy the easy flight through the tunnel and are already approaching its end.
2. You see a dazzling greenish light that softens as you fly over the edge of the tunnel.
3. Now you are in the area of your inner space.
4. You see a mysterious forest in the form of a giant room.
The forest is immersed in a pleasant fog, in the center of the forest - right in the air - a beautiful mirror hangs, and there are white candles on the sides.
5. Light these candles with the power of thought, simply by looking at them: concentrate on each of the 10 candles in turn. Look closely at the candle wick and send the energy of heat and fire so that the candle wick ignites. Do this with each candle.
6. Now go to the mirror and look carefully at the sun that you see in the mirror.
This sun is your guide and the keeper of the mystical mirror of your being, you can communicate with it.
7. Look carefully at the sun for 2-3 minutes.
Mentally speak to the sun and ask it to activate the mystical mirror for your inner work.
9. Once the mirror is activated, the sun will disappear and you will clearly see your reflection. Now take a close look at yourself in the mirror.
You stand naked and completely relaxed.
10. This is your mystical mirror and it can fulfill any wish you visualize in it.
Look in the mirror. You see yourself the way you dream of seeing yourself in real life.
11. Visualize your new appearance, character, facial features, eye color, tan, facial expressions, figure, body composition….
Mentally say in surprise: “Oh, I’m already like this...”.
12. Now look at yourself surrounded by those things, money, people, any benefits and superpowers that you want to have.
Mentally say in surprise: “Oh, I already have all this...”.
13. Look and visualize yourself in the mirror or any situations that you want to make real in external reality. Gradually this will come true.
Note! You can conduct similar mirror experiments from time to time before.
Step seven - inner room1. Now imagine with confidence that in this mirror you see a beautiful, warm and very cozy room, filled with a lilac glow.
2. Mystically step through the mirror and enter this room.
3. In a completely empty lilac room, you see many mirrors that are reflected in one another, creating many tunnels.
Get acquainted - this is your personal place for all subsequent mystical practices.
There is no one in this room except you. Here you can do whatever you want. Here you are free.
4. Through this room you can get to any parallel world, to any dimension and at any time.
Just mentally say what you want to develop in yourself and what you want to get rid of.
Having gone through all the steps in a conscious state, you will learn to control yourself and attract the desired events into your life.
But this is just the beginning!
Notes and feature articles for deeper understanding of the material¹Trance is a series of altered states of consciousness, as well as a functional state of the psyche that connects and mediates the conscious and unconscious mental functioning of a person (Wikipedia). All about
² Levitation is a mental or physical phenomenon in which an object without visible support floats in space without touching a solid or liquid surface (
And the creation of images, pictures and ideas there. If it creates for us images of objects and phenomena that are directly visible in the external world, then the imagination builds images of absent objects and phenomena on the basis of already existing pictures and ideas. With the help of imagination, a person can fly to other worlds, return to his past or be transported to his future.
Imagination plays a key role in such mental processes as play.
The possibilities of imagination are very great. Read how Nikola Tesla, the inventor of electricity and radio, the lord of lightning, used his imagination: “By the age of 17, I learned to see with my inner vision, and since then I have not needed models, drawings or experiments, I can just as realistically imagine all this in thoughts. When I have an idea, I immediately begin to develop it in my imagination. I change the design, make improvements and mentally set the mechanism in motion. It makes absolutely no difference to me whether I control my turbine in my thoughts or test it in the workshop. I even notice that its balance has been disrupted. The type of mechanism does not matter, the result will be the same. This way I can quickly develop and refine a concept without touching anything. When all possible and conceivable improvements to the invention have been taken into account and no weak points, I give this final product of my mental activity a concrete form. The device I have invented invariably works the way I think it should work, and the experience goes exactly as I planned. For twenty years there has not been a single exception.” - Such imaginative possibilities are the basis of thought experiments. See→
Imagination as a state or process in nervous system a person, can have a profound effect on the body - make a person sick (“imaginary” sick) or, conversely, healthy.
Types of imaginationImagination can be involuntary, voluntary, etc.
Involuntary imagination manifests itself in dreams, altered states of consciousness, etc. Certain pictures sometimes come to us according to the most bizarre logic, replace each other, and amazing, magical and sometimes scary scenes can be observed, as in a movie theater. By setting a special task, you can learn to largely control this process, and you will observe already controlled dreams.
The voluntary imagination draws before the mind's eye or recalls from memory those pictures that you need. In the latter case, imagination is more reminiscent of or. A picture of an attractive future, to which one wants to return and which one wants to realize, becomes a dream for an active person, and an empty dream for a slacker.
Hello, dear readers! Life sometimes presents a person with such a difficult test that he cannot cope with it and runs away from the problem. Or real life seems so boring, monotonous and unbearable that a person invents his own world, into which he becomes more and more immersed. Today I want to talk to you about the dangers of escaping reality into the world of illusions, what are the options for avoiding problems and what to do about it so as not to lose touch with reality forever.
Why does a person escape from reality?Psychology knows several defense mechanisms that help a person deal with difficulties. For example, memory loss. When a disaster occurs, a person does not remember anything that connected him with this incident. Or a girl who was abused. Memory specifically erases these memories so as not to cause further damage to mental health.
Escape from reality is also a kind of defense mechanism that helps a person overcome a difficult period in life or cope with unbearable experiences. You can learn more about defense mechanisms in Larisa Subbotina’s book “Psychological protection and stress.”
When a person no longer has enough strength to deal with reality, with real problems, he finds a way that helps him maintain mental balance. For example, escaping reality greatly helped people who were in concentration camps.
Sometimes this defense mechanism is formed in early age and it just becomes a habit. One of my clients used to go into the world of her fantasies when her parents argued. And this habit has become so deeply ingrained in her life that now the girl is incapable of being in conflict situations, does not know how to resolve such issues and prefers to escape to another reality.
Stress, strong emotional or physical tension, a turning point in life, a difficult breakup - all this can lead to withdrawal from reality and the creation of your own version of life. In a mild form, such a protective mechanism helps a person survive crises. But when the form becomes more severe or a person chooses a destructive way of escaping from reality, then it is impossible to do without outside help.
World of illusionsWhere do people go at a critical moment? There are several options for escaping reality. The most harmless is going into literature, cinema, music. John Tolkien, for example, called himself one of the first escapists. (Escapism - escape from reality). Creating his world took him most of his life, which gave us a whole universe with elves, dwarves, an eternal war for power, and so on.
But there are also more dangerous options. Entering a fantasy world or living in the past. So, women often cannot let go of the image ex-spouse who left for another woman, and continue to believe that they have a happy future together. And so she sits all day long and dreams, imagines them together, does not meet new people, because the image of her ex-husband is too strong. “Everything will be fine with him,” says the woman.
Among the escape into a fantasy world are computer games, which today have a huge distribution throughout the world. Teenagers are so immersed in an unreal universe and associate themselves with game characters that they completely fall out of real life.
Another option is overconsumption. To feel the joy of life, a person needs to acquire or buy something, the so-called shopaholism. Or such a stage when a person drags home everything that is bad. A friend of mine’s father, who is already quite old, drags home everything from the street and the trash heap.
Losing oneself to a dream can be dangerous because a person lives with his own illusory ideas that have no connection with reality.
Dreaming is, of course, healthy and useful. But it is important that dreams are real and achievable or close to it.
When a dream is unrealizable, a person falls into a trap, because he strives for its fulfillment, but this is impossible. Therefore, all his actions are aimed not at the real world, real problem solving, real communication, but at his own fantasy world.
The most dangerous escapes from reality are associated with alcohol, drugs or medicines. Under the influence of these means, a person experiences new, vivid emotions and impressions that he cannot get in reality. They attract and lure into their networks. The need to receive a new dose increases, over time the effect becomes less noticeable, even more is required, and so the person falls into a trap.
If you experience similar problems in yourself or in loved one, then you definitely need to pay attention to my two articles: “” and “”.
You can escape reality by gambling, extreme sports, gluttony or starvation, sex, workaholism, and so on. There are a lot of options for replacing reality, especially in the modern world.
But the main difference between a healthy defense mechanism and a serious problem is that a person does not lose touch with reality. He continues to communicate with people, he is concerned about the problems of loved ones and relatives, he is able to do without his hobby for a long time.
Return to realitySometimes escaping reality is truly beneficial and necessary to maintain your mental health. When a person experiences severe stress or encounters a crisis, then overcoming this, he grows, becomes even stronger, wiser, more experienced.
This is why it is so important to learn how to deal with such situations in life; you will find my article “” useful. After all, it is very important to get in shape after a difficult period in life.
You can get rid of the desire to escape into the world of illusions only by realizing reality, understanding your problems, and taking responsibility for your life on yourself. Running away is the easiest and most destructive way. But fighting problems is your chance to become stronger.
You need to understand your real desires well. You can achieve happiness by satisfying your true needs. That is why you need to act here and now.
If the situation becomes serious, then you should definitely seek help from a specialist, since coping with the current situation on your own is extremely difficult and often impossible.
What problems do you think people most often run away from? Do you know about your defense mechanisms? How can you help a person in a similar situation?
Live here and now.
Be happy!
This year I have to pass a difficult exam, for which I have been preparing for a year. The results will affect your future life.
But there is one difficulty that I just can’t cope with. I will call it an excessive passion for fantasy. This manifests itself in the fact that, while listening to music, I fantasize about some pleasant situations and I spend too much time on it (3-4 hours a day). I understand that I could spend these hours usefully, but my love for fantasies only gets worse over time. I would like to be more in reality.
It’s also quite difficult for me to concentrate on the subject I’m studying; thoughts are constantly spinning in my head: what needs to be done, who to write to, what to learn. This prevents me from immersing myself in my work and greatly interferes with my preparation for the exam.
Please advise how to stop fantasizing too much and learn to immerse yourself in the subject you are studying?
Can yoga help in this situation?
Elena, 25 years old
It can be recommended to practice meditation simply because it is a conscious choice and a conscious practice during which we devote time only to ourselves, doing it in a specific way. Your fantasies, obviously, are states into which you suddenly “fall”, and then for a long time you cannot get out of them. Perhaps you don't want to return to the real world because something in your life doesn't suit you. Ask yourself this question and try to make adjustments. If reality is rich and interesting enough, you will not want to run away from it.
Try the usual compilation of a to-do list for the current day with an approximate distribution of time for one activity or another. A list of tasks that are easy to complete will help you focus on the present moment.
Yoga is also a practice “here and now”. It doesn’t matter what we want, what matters is what our body allows us today. We must always listen to what it can and wants today. Balance asanas cannot be performed if you are not concentrated.
The problem may also be aggravated by the fact that you do not allow yourself to rest. It turns out that you constantly owe something. Allow yourself hours of rest, then your work will be more effective, and you won’t need to “steal” time to be distracted by dreams.
Most likely, none of these practices will be a panacea on their own, but together they will help improve efficiency.
