What is more important in business, process or result? Process and result On the process or on the result.
Often, men and women over thirty suddenly catch themselves thinking: “You set goals for yourself, climb, strive, achieve, and now, you have almost everything you could think of... But for some reason it’s empty. And sad."
It is often thought that achievements in the social (career, financial) sphere often contradict achievements in the personal and family sphere. Maybe so, especially for women, but the most interesting thing would be to consider an option where, at first glance, there is everything - a career, a husband, children, and wealth. But it’s still empty and uncertain in my soul.
When I ask such people what they think about the past period of time during which they achieved their goals, they rarely remember anything at all. More precisely, memory stores a formal chain of events, a person consoles himself that a lot has been done, mentally congratulates himself on what he has achieved, but the memories themselves “do not warm.” And this is the essence of the problem - life was not lived, but run through, lived through in haste and bustle, much was denied to oneself, much was given up. And there is still no pleasure from achievements. And even children and family quickly turn into a routine - of course, a person “reached” a wedding, gave birth to a child, but further life consists of a process! And he already “ life is boring“, he needs new goals, new “conquests”.
Let’s conditionally call one category of people process workers, and the other – result makers. They are formed in different ways. The psychology of a achiever originates in constant demands from society and loved ones: you must achieve this and that, otherwise you will be considered a failure. A high achiever does not know how to be content with what he has, he is always dissatisfied with himself, his standard of living, he constantly compares himself with others (as, most likely, his parents compared). And therefore, there is always someone or something that does not allow him to live in peace, forcing him to set ever higher goals and strive for them with all his might.
The vulnerability of this position is that such a person does not always have enough time and desire to think about: are these his goals? And does he really need to have what he strives so hard for? After all, everyone is really different.
And without having time to think about whether he specifically needs the said wealth or status, or even a family, the achiever finds himself hostage to ideas that may actually contradict his subconscious aspirations. After all, every person in his subconscious has some corner of his true desires, if you like - his mission in this world. But there’s no time to think about it either.
Liliana, a successful businesswoman. Her husband is a respectable businessman, she is the owner of a chain of beauty salons. Both of them strove for wealth and were in a hurry to “get theirs,” which included money, starting a family, and having a child. And suddenly, at over thirty years old, Liliana realizes that she doesn’t know her teenage daughter at all, who “for some reason” started using drugs! And “for some reason” she doesn’t understand at all why her husband became indifferent to her. She can easily list everything she has achieved, but she cannot really answer the question of what her husband’s tastes are, what he really is like, what he dreams of, just as she is a somewhat abstract woman for him. And for her birthday he gives her the same roses, although she doesn’t like them. Their album is full of photos from exotic countries, but when I ask her to describe some romantic moment, a moment of true unity, she suddenly starts crying. Because memory is silent. And neither a two-story apartment in Sokolniki, nor three mink coats, not even your own business - after all, it was not chosen to your liking. But because “prestigious, profitable, stable.”
The problem of all achievers is boredom, tired of it what surrounds them, a constant desire to change partners (after all, he/she has already been conquered, they need more!) and the attitude that the outside world should constantly give them incentives - new “lures”, entertainment, shocks.
Milan Kundera once wrote that speed is directly proportional to the strength of oblivion. This means that the faster we go through life, the less we remember and the poorer our inner world, while a person who wants to truly fill it involuntarily slows down his steps, savoring every step, every memory or emotional movement, every breath.
Process
Processualism grows out of interest in one’s own “I”. For him, the principle “know yourself” is not an empty phrase. In addition to interest in himself, he has no less interest in the world. He is in no hurry, and therefore knows everything much deeper than his opponent. It is the process person who can enjoy one partner for years and does not know the word “boredom”; it is he who can, after sitting on the couch for a couple of hours, come up with a brilliant business solution and wake up rich the next day. He is the “darling of fate”, to whom, although in fact the secret is simple: “He who is in no hurry to get anywhere succeeds,” Professor Preobrazhensky answers Bormental’s question. And you can’t say that Bulgakov’s hero achieved nothing in life! Simply due to the lack of haste, the procedural has time to highlight the main thing and correctly use both his abilities and the capabilities of the world. The philosophy of the procedural is centered around the fact that every moment of life is worth enjoying, because the next one may not exist.
Maxim is now a sought-after designer. At first, his path was not easy: he spent a long time searching for himself, refused to work where he did not like, and was content with little. However, by soulfully doing the work that he was actually in love with, after some time he was able to declare himself. And he began to invest money in advertising his ideas and solutions. After another couple of years, a partner was found who was ready to invest money in the common business. Things went well and wealth was generated. I managed to buy a house and get a car. And after some time, the “woman of my dreams” met. What’s interesting is that Maxim leads a rather secluded lifestyle, spending hours drawing and creating computer solutions for them. She takes care of the house a lot, with her recently born child. And he's in no hurry. It's nice to look at him - he's happy.
The race for a result that has not been properly comprehended can be likened to a neurotic reaction: people seem to run away from themselves, hide behind achievements, as if wanting to say “look at me, you can’t have any complaints against me, I’ve outdone you all, I have everything, respect me!” And it sounds like a cry for help.
Because behind this is often the fear of emptiness inside, the fear of underestimation of others, and it turns out that such a person is rarely confident in himself - otherwise he would live the way he wants. And he wouldn't care what others think. But if there is no inner knowledge of oneself, no sense of inner rightness, then you can only shield yourself from the truth by chasing results. Where the main thing is not to be left alone with yourself.
Do you love children?
Not really. But the process itself...
How to enjoy life more orMeta-program "process orientation and result orientation"
What is it and how can it help us?
For example, there are people who are interested in sex I like the process itself- touching, kissing, long periods of sex. And there are those who only the result matters- I would rather get an orgasm and move on to other things (eat, smoke, sleep, for example). Can you imagine what we're talking about, right?! Maybe they even remembered someone...
Another example: there are people who eat slowly, cutting each piece of food, and then just as slowly putting the food into their mouths and chewing it for a long time, enjoying the taste. Do you think this is process or result orientation?!
And there are those who eat quickly, in large pieces, emptying the plate in a matter of minutes. What is the orientation of these people?!
So what is NLP meta-program "process orientation and result orientation", I think it has become clear. Now let's see how this will help us in our lives?
Sometimes we realize that we are not doing something very effectively, but we don’t quite understand how to change it.
Have you ever seen how one person tells something leisurely and in detail, and another hurries him, jumps out of his pants and begs: “Get to the point already!”?
Two different orientations. One has process orientation- he likes to talk to someone else results orientation- he wants to get information faster and he is indifferent to all the accompanying lyrics. Does this cause conflicts and outbursts of negative emotions?! How! Would you like to somehow avoid this?! This is also possible!
In beginning relationships, we often see some discrepancy: the girl more often has process orientation, men are bigger result-oriented. It happens in different ways, of course, but, as a rule, a girl wants meetings, glances, hugs, conversations and walks, but the man does not understand why all this is necessary. Do we like each other?! Well, here we go!! What a walk, let's have sex quickly.
Recognizable picture?!
This is how conflicts sometimes begin. And even partings. People like each other, but if one has a strong result orientation(have sex as soon as possible), and the other has a strong process orientation and the desire to stretch out the candy-bouquet period to infinity, then accusations that “You don’t love me” are very likely. Moreover, on both sides.
What should we do?!
Well, first of all, determine what your orientation is in this regard. metaprogram?!
In today's rapidly changing world, we often experience strict focus on results, - finish college faster, write a book, get a certificate, raise children faster, get to the finish line in any business faster.
Will we become happier if, on the way to the result, we think not only about it, but also about what is possible? enjoy the process?! You can go somewhere and think, “Well, when will I get there,” or you can also look around and enjoy the views, communication, good people that we meet.
Yes, sometimes you can see a person who focused on process and thinks little about the result. This happens a little less often, but it still happens. Probably, these are the people who will look at what is happening around them and always be late to their destination.
We don't talk about what's good and what's not so good. Everything is individual. A good model is one that helps you be as effective and happy as possible.
If you feel that you are not as happy as you would like, because you are forever you only think about the result, or if you are completely immersed in the process and from this you don’t get as good results as you could, that is, it makes sense to just adjust something.
Identify those situations in yourself when your focus on the result or the process does not help, but quite the opposite. And change the settings as needed.
If a man has sex for 30 seconds or a minute, I think his partner will be twice as happy if he is now a little bigger think about the process and the sex will last at least a couple of minutes. What if it’s longer?! And if your partner does something else before and something after... Life will generally start to get better
Now you know about meta-program "Process orientation And results orientation". Look how you are doing with this metaprogram. Would you like to change something for the better?! Then move it a little focus of attention in the opposite direction. How much to move?! You know better. Until the desired effect is achieved, probably. So that both the process and the results are pleasing.
Man for the most part consists of imaginary contradictions dictated by taste. Anything that does not correspond to current tastes is declared heretical. “Heretic,” by the way, is someone who can choose, from the Greek αἵρεσις - “choice” and “direction, system of education.”
Just a “chooser”, not what you thought!
Imaginary contradictions apply to any issue, so all psychological memes are mostly useless, since they are conversations about the taste of oysters in favor of the poor. For example, if a person is told that he needs to “accept himself,” he will object that how can he change when he is happy with everything.
A similar situation with “orientation towards the process, not the result” - what then to do with the result?! As if if you only “enjoy the process” and live in the “current moment”, then tomorrow there will be nothing to eat. Or, even worse, if you enjoy the process, then “the result will come by itself.”
In fact, there are no contradictions between the result and the process.
It is best to live in the real world, not in the world of imagination. I will not define the dubious word “real”, but you can increase your connection with reality through dialogue with the outside world: you did something - you looked at the reaction - you did it further.
In relation to “plans” and “results”, this means that you can plan to pump up 5 kg of muscle by summer, and wake up in the summer and be disappointed, or you can want to gain muscle mass, go to the gym regularly and see what comes out: at what speed what grows how the body reacts to training, what it feels like. Then, unfortunately, it may turn out that there is no way to gain 5 kg.
The result is a game of imagination (until it becomes real).
When “life makes adjustments to plans” - this is not only “normal”, it is generally the only way not to fall into groundless fantasies. If life doesn’t make adjustments, then who? You? What do you think about yourself? No, seriously, “Man proposes, but God disposes” is just a state of affairs.
(Well, “self-acceptance” means acceptance of the state of things, of course, and not at all connivance).
This is the same wise saying- more understandable in English, since it is closer to the original Latin: Man proposes, but God disposes (“man proposes, God throws away the excess”) - explains what needs to be done to achieve something. We need to offer more often!
You will laugh, but the result is impossible without the process. Sooner or later something will have to be done, and the better the process, the greater the chance of results.
This “enjoy the process” does not mean at all that you can “fuck off in production.” That is, of course, you can - provided that you are from such enjoy!
For example, a neat and tidy person will enjoy the neat and tidy process and will eventually (if he is lucky) achieve a neat and tidy result (minus the influence of an imperfect world), from which he will also enjoy! If a person organizes the process according to his taste, then he will get the result according to his taste. “What you fertilized is what grew.” All attempts to cheat (cheat on yourself) and get some other result do not lead to anything real.
In this regard, receiving “pleasure” from the process is no different from receiving pleasure from the result: “And God called the dry land earth, and the collection of waters he called the seas. And God saw that it was good.”
Let’s take the same clear example of training: there is a result “world champion in tennis”, and there is a specific training today, and for the same result it will be more useful if you conduct it with a feeling of being fully involved in a specific training, and not in dreams of a championship.
Focusing on the process does not guarantee anything - even if you have trained perfectly for many years, you may not become a champion. Suddenly you are a crooked freak. If you continue to dream, you will become a crooked freak with a rich imagination (see “self-acceptance”). But hey, at least you had fun playing tennis!
Let's summarize what we learned in today's lesson:
There is no contradiction between the result and the process.
The result is imagined until it is achieved.
The process is real because it happens in the living world, not in dreams.
In the process of (dialogue) with the world, the limitations of you and the world become clear.
Process Maybe lead to a result, but the result has never led to a process!
You need to keep the desired result in mind so that the process is not aimless.
If you want results, organize the process.
What is the difference between a process and a result? What is a process approach?
How to learn to make improvements using a process approach?
What distinguishes the process from the result?
Result- this is what we have at the end of our actions. For example, the result could be:
- the amount of money earned during the period;
- the time it took us to run the distance;
- the amount of gasoline consumed over a certain time;
- weight that was lost after finishing the diet;
- number of on-time arrivals to work and much more.
All the results obtained represent indicators that we obtain as a result of certain actions. What actions? What leads us to these indicators and why did we get these particular indicators and not other indicators? Can we manage these indicators, improve them and how to do this? We can, and to do this we must understand through what sequence of actions we get these results. And it is this sequence of actions with certain characteristics that will be process. The process answers the question: “how will we act?” Therefore, in order to get a different result at the output, we must change the process, i.e. apply a process approach and then a properly structured process will be able to provide us with the required result.
Let's look at examples of processes in conjunction with their results:
For the result “amount of money earned over a period,” the process may represent, for example, consistent actions to attract new customers or expand the product basket for existing customers. Different approaches to promoting products give different results. That is why, to increase sales, managers are trying to determine the most effective methods interaction with customers and train your employees in these methods. These methods, scheduled in the time of their transfer to employees, can reflect the development process of employees to develop certain sales knowledge, and the employee’s work, built on the results of training, will determine the process of interaction with clients, allowing to influence the result in terms of the amount of money earned for the period.
For the result “time to cover the distance,” the training schedule can serve as a process. This graph should indicate how the athlete trained, i.e. what exercises, for what duration and with what regularity he performed.
For the result “the amount of gasoline consumed over a certain time,” the process can be the route of movement of the car with the indicated average speed on the sections of the road traveled.
For the result “weight lost at the end of the diet,” the process can be information about the required food intake during the diet.
For the result “number of on-time arrivals to work”, the process will be the sequence of actions preceding arrival to work. Actions must be clearly defined and digitized in time.
As can be seen from the examples, to describe processes, in most cases, it is necessary to know the sequence and time of the actions performed. As a rule, with the correct display of the process, the result can be predicted with a high degree of probability. To correctly present and read the process, it is recommended to use a schematic display, which allows you to superimpose the main stages of the process with their characteristics on the time axis.
