How to make a Christmas tree toy from a disk. How to make beautiful Christmas tree decorations for a competition, for a kindergarten, or a large street tree? DIY Christmas tree decorations made of felt: master class
Hi all. Yesterday in kindergarten I was given the task of preparing some kind of toy for the city street Christmas tree. I have only seen one of these toys - a candy toy, and one mother made it for 2 years in a row. But this year, such candy toys are not suitable for them (the district administration) and they told them to come up with something new.
Among the options proposed by teachers were:
1. Color the flower pot and make it in the shape of a bell.
2. Wrap the children's ball in foil so that it turns out to be a New Year's ball for the Christmas tree.
To be honest, my head is occupied with something completely different, so we’ll look for what other craftswomen and sites offer. I’ll share the most interesting ones.
DIY toys for a street Christmas tree - a selection of ideas and master classes.
Insert an aluminum wire into the first tube (I got it from a “noodle” electrical wire) so that it does not break under the weight of the disk.
Place the disk on a reinforced tube and secure it with silicone glue (hot gun) so that it does not dangle.
To prevent hot silicone from flowing out of a sufficiently wide hole in the center of the disk, cut out 2 “washers” from cardboard. String a “washer” onto a tube, apply hot silicone onto it and glue the disk to the washer and, at the same time, to the center of the tube. Glue the second “washer” with the other side. This way the disk is securely attached to the center of the straw.
Thread a straw with a disk and 2 more straws onto a strong thread. Close them into a triangle.
The joints of the tubes and cardboard “washers” can be decorated with tinsel.
An interesting toy for decorating a street Christmas tree is ready!
The description may seem incomprehensible, but in fact this toy is very simple to make.

1) 2 identical packages of semi-finished products - glued together (only with glue for ceiling tiles)
2) paint with silver (diluted with water-based varnish)
3) decoupage... for a festive touch I covered the edges with glitter and outlined the contours)))
4) I wrapped a ribbon around the joints. also with titanium glue...and I made a loop for it too
You can do the same with plastic plates...
I received an assignment from school to make a toy for a street Christmas tree, I thought about it and decided to make a ball. I took cut up bags, crumpled them up, rolled them into a ball, periodically dripped PVA glue, cake strings and sequins + gold paint. Diameter 20-22 cm.
Made from plastic bags, secured with masking tape, painted with gold spray paint and decorated, as they say, with whatever it was :), in this case, tinsel, bows, a garland of flat snowflakes
New Year's toy for the street tree House clock, author Olga Gulemina.For work you needed:
two ceiling tiles;
ruler, pencil, scissors;
small rectangular box;
food foil;
colored foil;
small toys for decoration;
12 M&M`S candies;
clear nail polish;
braid 60 cm;
2 tubes of instant glue.
To begin, take a ceiling tile, place a box on it and draw a house using a pencil and ruler. Then measure the sides and prepare blanks for the side walls, roof and floor of the house. Then cut out all the parts. Cover large parts with food foil, and small parts with colored foil.
Glue the box to the front and back walls of the house. Cut two holes in the top of the box and thread the ribbon through them. Sew the ends of the ribbon to make a loop and tuck them into the box so that they remain inside the house.
Connect and glue all parts of the house. Cover the pre-cut circle for the dial with yellow foil. Glue it to the house.
Cover the M&M`S candies with two layers of nail polish, dry and glue them onto the dial instead of numbers. Cut arrows from colored foil and glue.
Decorate the roof of the house with small toys. To do this, simply glue them on with glue. The little house is ready.
Such a lamp will look good in a nursery, as children love bright and unusual things. The following polyhedra can be made from disks: cube (four faces), icosahedron (20 faces in the form of triangles), dodecahedron (12 faces in the form of pentagons - shown in the photo), tetrahedron or pyramid - 3 faces.
Each face is one disk. First, you need to make a template from paper according to the shape of the edge required for the figure. For example, for a cube it is a square, for a dodecahedron it is a pentagon, and so on. Using this template we mark the cuts on CDs. The cut itself is made on half the side of the template, and for all sides of this craft made from disks, this part of the side (the place of the cut) should be the same - for all parts it is left or for all parts it is right. The cuts can be made with a hacksaw, a hot awl, or even a grinder. In this case, the melted edges of the disks are cut off using a stationery knife. When assembling, one element is inserted into the cut of the next and so on the entire lamp. It is necessary to carefully assemble the elements, as if the disks are bent, they may break.
New Year's ball made of 12 computer disks. Economical, environmentally friendly and long lasting. It is especially good for outdoor Christmas trees, as it does not deteriorate. Connection with tape. Still a little unfinished.
I mark the pentagon with a protractor at 72 degrees, the distance between the edges is 8 cm. I cut it with scissors, I didn’t think they could cut it so well.
New Year's balls from CDs on a street tree, author I am Oksana.
Preparing materials:
1. old and unnecessary CDs (12 discs are needed for one ball)
2. Soldering iron with a sharp tip (I think you can somehow do without it, but with this device it will work faster)
3. Glue gun
4. Wire
5. Tinsel (I used thin) - approximately 4 meters
6. Good mood and time about 40 minutes.
STEP 1: cut out a template - a pentagon with sides approximately 6.5 - 7 cm. We will need it for the next step
STEP2: apply our template to the disk and, using a soldering iron, make 5 holes in the disk corresponding to the corners of the pentagon. And so with all 12 discs
Step3: cut the wire. In the future, we will use this wire to fasten our parts together.
Step4: We begin to assemble the ball. The ends of the wire look towards the underside of our future ball. Then we begin to connect the outer 5 disks to each other (see arrows)
It looks like a vase.
Step 6: place the second row of disks in a checkerboard pattern relative to the first row. and then we close everything with the last (12th) disk. Our ball is ready. You can decorate with tinsel.
In general, I found a ball made of plastic cups, just what I needed. It turned out to be very simple to make, and the money was only 28 UAH (200 cups - 16 UAH, a pack of paper clips - 2 UAH and 5 sprinkles - 10 UAH). I bought 300 cups. - that’s what it was written everywhere, but the ball took 190 pieces.
I want to tell you how I did it, otherwise I couldn’t find step-by-step instructions on the Internet. In general, there were two options on the net: 1) first make a circle of cups, and then build rows on top, reducing the number of cups in each, 2) first fasten 3 cups together, and then attach hexagon “flowers”, there were no steps, so I decided do it your own way, focusing on a soccer ball, which contains both hexagons and pentagons.
I stapled the cups at the bottom and at the top, but that was at first, then mostly only at the bottom, in general it depended on the situation, some couldn’t be stapled on all sides
And so, here we go:
1) fasten the cups into a “flower” (1 piece for now)
2) fasten the cups into a “flower without a petal” (3 pcs.)
3) and also fasten “a flower with three petals” (1 pc.)
4) lay it out like this. It turns out that the “flowers” have 2 common petals
5) now we fasten these parts + 1 cup so that in the middle we get a “donut”-pentahedron (from 5 machines)
6) do the same for the “bottom” of the ball
7) make “taxi checkers” (10 pcs.)
8) attach 5 “checkers” to the “top” and “bottom” of the ball like this:
9) make “flowers” (10 pcs)
10) attach 5 “flowers” to the already created “top” and “bottom”. Attention!!! This is where difficulties begin - the ball begins to round, the cups begin to bend and even break a little, but this is not critical. So, when you attach the “flower”, then between the base and the “flower” you should get a “donut”
11) now you need to put the two halves together like a puzzle. When folded, you get “flowers” without a center, into which you need to insert one more cup, there will be 10 such center cups. For now we are inserting 9 of them.
12) what do we do with the 10th middle glass? For strength, we insert another cup into it, pierce a hole with an awl, place metal washers in the cup and under the cup (for strength), stretch a synthetic cord of the required size in the form of a loop, tie several knots under the cup, and tie a knot in the cup too. The result is a loop on which we will hang our ball. Then we also insert this middle glass with a loop into the ball.

If you have a couple dozen old CDs lying around the house, use them for decorative purposes. Shiny iridescent circles have a hundred uses, and you can take note of any of them. Crafts made from CDs will diversify the interior and add a bit of originality to the home atmosphere. Handicraft lovers share ideas born in the process of creative reflection. Listen to them to make your life a little more interesting. Simple tips will tell you how to turn unnecessary information media into original material for decoration.
What can you make from old disks with your own hands?
Throwing away unique decorative material is extremely inappropriate. Using unwanted CDs, you can do whatever your imagination allows. Such crafts are suitable for home decoration. They will be appropriate for ordinary holidays and themed celebrations. In addition, there are many ideas for making unusual household items from CDs. Check them out, add your creativity and implement original ideas with your own hands to make life brighter!
Lamp
If your old chandelier has become unusable, or you simply realized that it is too outdated and therefore spoils the interior, replace it with an unusual lamp made from old disks. To make it at home, you don’t need anything special, just a set of simple materials and a little perseverance. Write down step-by-step instructions so you don't forget:
- We prepare 12 CD/DVDs, 30 metal staples or paper clips, a drill of minimum diameter (2 mm) and a socket with a lamp.
- Using a protractor, we divide one disk, which will later be used as a stencil, into 5 segments. The angle between the lines separating the segments is 72°.
- Drill 5 holes at a distance of 3-4 mm from the edge.
- We put the stencil in the box with the other 11 disks and drill them at the same time along the intended holes. To prevent them from moving relative to each other, we insert solid rods into the finished holes. They will act as guides. Pieces of ballpoint pen paste are suitable for these purposes.
- We install a cartridge in one of the disks. There is no need to adjust the hole; it already fits perfectly.
- The main part of the lamp is ready. Using paper clips/brackets we attach the remaining disks to it.
- Before installing the latter, screw a lamp with a power of up to 25 watts into the socket.
Dress
Some people will be taken aback by imagining a dress made from CDs, but this is quite real. Computer disks, which are perceived by the modern generation as useless waste material, are suitable for creating an extravagant outfit. Decorating a dress with fragments of CDs is not at all complicated. With a minimum of effort, you will become the happy owner of an original outfit.
Making a mirror pattern on a dress from CDs:
- Using large tailor's scissors, cut the discs into small triangular pieces.
- Polish the rough edges with fine sandpaper. Apply clear nail polish to them.
- We attach a pin to each fragment on one side using construction glue.
- We attach decorative elements to the dress.
Disco ball
There is nothing easier than making a disco ball with your own hands. To do this, you will need a large round balloon, a couple of unnecessary newspapers, water, paste and a couple dozen CDs. Stock up on everything you need, free up 3-4 hours for needlework and get started. Step-by-step instructions for making a disco ball are given below:
- Inflate the balloon to its maximum size. Place newspaper soaked in water on the rubber surface. The pieces should be small so that there are no unevenness.
- When the paper dries a little, apply a second layer of newspaper soaked in paste on it. Repeat this procedure several times to ensure a strong shell.
- Leave the ball in a warm place until completely dry. After an hour it will become hard.
- Punch the ball with a needle and pull a strong thread or fishing line through it. This is necessary in order to subsequently hang the finished product from the ceiling.
- Having finished preparing the frame, we move on to the main part. Cut several CDs into square pieces measuring 1x1 cm. Treat the edges of the fragments with clear varnish so that the magnetic surface does not peel off.
- Cover the ball with mirror pieces in a circle, making sure that the puncture point, from which the pre-inserted fishing line peeks out, is on top. The lower part of the sphere must be pasted over especially carefully. For the upper half, which will be under the ceiling, you can use irregularly shaped pieces, where they will not be visible to the eye.
Crafts for kindergarten
Using used DVDs, you can decorate a holiday in a kindergarten. Original crafts will be appropriate for Christmas, March 8th, Mother's Day and more. Make your own a themed decor item for a specific celebration or a simple decoration that will please the eye on weekdays. Let's look at some CD crafts for kids.
Owl
To make an original fancy owl, you will need the following set of materials and tools:
- CD disk – 12 pcs.;
- foil – 20 cm2;
- narrow tape – 30 cm;
- glue “Moment” - 20 g;
- black cardboard – 1 sheet of A4 format;
- yellow cardboard – 1 sheet of A4 format;
- dark blue ballpoint pen – 1 pc.;
- simple pencil – 1 pc.;
- scissors – 1 pc.
Making an owl:
- Using scissors, cut a “fringe” at the edges of the eight disks.
- On yellow cardboard we draw eyes - two circles with a diameter of 5-6 cm. Cut out along the contour.
- From black cardboard we cut out the pupils - circles with a diameter of 20-25 mm.
- Glue the pupils to the eyes. The location relative to the centers of the yellow circles should be the same.
- From one disk we cut out a beak - a piece in the shape of a drop of water.
- We use the remains of the cut media to make the edges. Sharp triangles of the same size will do for these purposes.
- We take another disk and cut out the legs from it.
- We give the small pieces remaining from the two cut disks the shape of leaves. We draw veins on them using a pencil.
- We glue the cardboard eyes to two fringed disks, and then glue them together overlapping each other. On the back side of the first part of the craft, glue another disk, exactly in the middle.
- We attach the beak at the front. The owl's head is ready!
- Wrap the pencil in foil. You will get a twig. We attach the leaves to it using tape or glue.
- We make the body from five disks with chopped fringe. We connect two disks so that the total width is greater than the eyes. We attach three more disks connected in a row to them.
- We connect the torso with the head. Glue the legs.
- We attach a twig with leaves to the finished owl. The craft is ready!
Flower
If you are wondering how you can use old disks, make beautiful DIY flower crafts out of them. This task is not difficult at all. For props you will need CDs, pliers, scissors, a candle and paints. Making one flower will take no more than 5 minutes. In the process, you will have to melt the disk over the candles, so it is better to sit on the balcony or go out into the yard.
Let's turn the disk into a beautiful rose:
- Cut the disc along the entire length of the radius.
- Heat one edge of the cut over a candle.
- When the plastic begins to melt, use pliers to twist it to the side.
- As you slowly turn the dial over the candle flame, continue to rotate the pliers.
- After a full revolution of the disk, the flower bud will be ready.
- Paint it any color you like. Attach the leg if necessary. For beauty, you can decorate the petals with sparkles.

In addition to thread and knitting needles, you will need one unnecessary CD, and nothing more. Knit a round monkey face according to the size of the disc, make a beautiful back part from any material and connect them along the edge with a thread. The disk will act as a frame on which the flat craft will be supported. The finished product can be used as a stand for a mug or hang from the ceiling, decorating the interior.
Herringbone
Another interesting DIY craft option for the home for the New Year. The Christmas tree is a symbol of the winter holidays, so if you make one, you definitely won’t go wrong. To make such a decoration you will need a sheet of thick A3 cardboard, Moment glue, half a dozen unnecessary CDs and a small New Year's ball. Step-by-step instructions for making the craft are given below.
- Make a cone with a wide base out of cardboard.
- Cut the discs into sharp triangles up to 2 cm long.
- Cover the cone with pieces of disks, starting from the bottom.
- Place a New Year's ball on top to hide the edges of the disk fragments and decorate the product.
Snowman
An original craft made from computer disks, which will be relevant during the New Year holidays. You can hang the snowman in a prominent place in the guest room or use it as a decoration for the Christmas tree. To make a holiday snowman, you will need two discarded CDs or DVDs, white fabric, a few buttons and 2 hours of free time.
Making a snowman:
- Using a compass, draw a circle with a diameter of 90 mm on the disk and cut it out with a stationery knife. Make sure both parts remain intact. From these you will make the body.
- From the second disk, cut out a head - a circle with a diameter of 60 cm.
- Cover the circles with white fabric and connect them with glue.
- Use a red button for the nose. Make the eyes from black buttons.
- You can draw a smile using a regular felt-tip pen.
- Sew several brown buttons onto the body. They will represent the fasteners of a fur coat.

Of course, this is not only because of the fabulous New Year itself, but also because of the upcoming “vacations” that both adults and children are looking forward to. Many people go to festivities on the night from December 31 to January 1; an event next to the beautiful Christmas tree is also obligatory. Usually it is placed somewhere in the city center or in several places where the main celebrations will take place. Street Christmas trees are usually decorated in advance, but you can contribute to the decoration and make a large decoration for your city Christmas tree yourself.
At the same time, you don’t have to spend a lot, look for some expensive materials in stores, you can only show your imagination and make everything from improvised materials, which are often lying around unnecessarily in almost every home. It is especially interesting to do this with children. This fun will help develop imagination, improve motor skills and just have fun with your family.
Large New Year's toy - “Angel”
Option No. 1 – a toy made of tubes and a disk
You will need:
- computer disk - few people use them anymore, so you probably have 1-2 unnecessary ones,
- straws for cocktails (it is better to use thicker ones) - from 16 pieces,
- hot glue,
- aluminum wire (you can use thick wire),
- 2 mugs made of thick cardboard,
- thick thread.
Procedure:
- One of the tubes needs to be strengthened. To do this, insert a pre-prepared length of wire inside it. This is done so that the tube does not break. It will be the basis of the entire frame.
- Prepare in advance 2 “washers” made of cardboard with a hole cut out in the middle so that you can insert a tube there so that it stays inside.
- Glue both circles on both sides of the disk in the middle, where there is a hole.
- Next, we put the disk on a reinforced tube and lubricate it with hot glue so that the structure holds. When it dries, you can continue working.
- Thread a strong thread through a straw with a disk, string 2 more straws on it and make a triangle from this structure.
- Add 2 more straws using a thread. You will get 2 triangles with one common side.
- Then continue in the same order, you will end up with a polyhedron.
If desired, you can use more tubes, depending on how many possibilities and your imagination are enough to create a figure
The joints between the tubes and the core where the cardboard mugs are glued can be covered with tinsel or something else in the New Year's theme.
Option No. 2 - a ball made of bags
This version of a large DIY Christmas tree decoration for a street tree is suitable even for the little ones. The instructions are simple, and the bags can be found in any home.
Christmas tree toy “Ball”
You will need:
- paper (any),
- colored shiny bags,
- cake strings or gift bags,
- PVA glue.
Procedure:
- The inside of the ball will consist of crumpled paper. To do this, take absolutely any paper, you can even use old newspapers. Crumple them one after another, gradually “winding” the next one onto the resulting ball. To make the layers stick better, they can be periodically lubricated with PVA glue. Surely the student will have it in his schoolbag; it is a necessary thing at school.
When the ball is already large enough, the right size for a street tree, then the elegant bags will come into use. It can also be wrapping paper, which is usually used to wrap gift boxes.
- Wrap the paper ball with wrapping paper or colored bags and secure with glue.
- Tie the resulting shiny ball with fancy colored ropes and make a loop at the top so that the toy can be easily hung on the city Christmas tree.
If desired, the ball can be additionally decorated with beads, beautiful hairpins, bows, and snowflakes.
Option No. 3 – Christmas tree toy made from a plastic bottle
This option is suitable for creative people who know how to draw. Although children can leave their scribbles on this simple object. After all, the main thing is creative imagination and joy from the work done!
You will need:
- plastic bottle (any size),
- paints for decoupage.
Action plan:
We don’t take into account a glass bottle, although it would look more impressive, but for a Christmas tree this item is too heavy and can break the branches, so we discard it right away.
In this version of the street Christmas tree decoration, you only need your imagination. You can depict whatever you want on the bottle. It’s better if it relates specifically to New Year’s themes. For example, this is a fairy-tale hut dusted with snow. Or the face of Father Frost, or maybe the depicted figures of the grandfather along with the Snow Maiden. It could be an elegant Christmas tree, a drawing of a beautiful ball toy, or a snowman. Yes, whatever your heart desires!
The main rule when working with such a toy is that you first need to completely paint the plastic with one general background color.
Option No. 4 – “delicious” candy
This toy is one of the simplest and most standard toy to make with your own hands for the Christmas tree. It is done very easily. You will need paper or something soft, for example, cotton wool or foam rubber, padding polyester. This will serve as the inside of the candy. Make a “filler” in the shape of a thick sausage of the desired size. Wrap it on top with shiny colored paper intended for wrapping gifts. Roll the paper tightly on the sides and tie with bows. Don't forget to attach a loop.

Option #5 – penguins made from a burnt out light bulb
You probably have burnt-out incandescent light bulbs piling up in your home. You collect them, and then take them all at once to a special bin for such things. But don’t rush to do this, because New Year is coming soon, and you definitely need to make a toy for the Christmas tree. To make this you will need regular incandescent light bulbs and decoupage paints. In fact, you don't need any special artistic skills to draw a penguin, it's very simple. Paint the front of the light bulb white. Make, as it were, 2 circles - on the top of the light bulb (below the base) and on the bottom, most convex part. As an association, mentally imagine the number 8, and you need to draw it with white paint on the front. The top will be the face, the bottom will be the stomach. Paint the rest of the unpainted surface of the light bulb with black paint. All that remains is to make a cute penguin face: eyes and beak, everything is ready! Glue the loop to the base. Alternatively, you can wrap the base with rope or twine.
Conclusion
Show your imagination, create, and then you will remember the New Year holiday with bright moments. If you want to do something more unusual and intricate, then look on the Internet for a photo of a toy on a street Christmas tree. There are plenty of options, and you don’t need to limit yourself to these five. You can use papier-mâché, soccer balls, and even hats as a base!
Balls and lamp made from CDs (MK)Starting over the weekend, I was simply drawn into this exciting activity. And it all started with the fact that my child and I had to make a couple of Christmas tree decorations for a street Christmas tree, which (more precisely for 2 Christmas trees) grows in the courtyard of the kindergarten. And then it began.....I scoured the Internet looking for ideas and eventually found what you see now. Unfortunately, I didn’t find such a MK on our favorite site (if it already exists, then I apologize - I didn’t intend to plagiarize, and therefore I admit that it wasn’t me who came up with it, but I’m just embodying what I saw on other sites)
6. Good mood and time about 40 minutes
It turns out like this (looks like a vase)
Step 6: place the second row of disks in a checkerboard pattern relative to the first row. and then we close everything with the last (12th) disk. Our ball is ready. You can decorate with tinsel.
My brother, seeing the ball, suggested putting a light bulb inside and I liked this idea. This is where my experiment began. Only instead of a light bulb, inside I placed a New Year's garland of many small light bulbs before connecting the last disk to the parts. Plugged it in and.....
True, my “point-and-shoot” camera, which dares to call itself a digital camera, still does not know how to photograph garlands and other lighting effects well. Therefore, the quality of the photo (even though it turned out at all) - I apologize - is not so great. BUT it's still fascinating.
For now it stands like this.....without decoration. BUT I don’t know - is it worth adding tinsel to this lamp at all or leaving it like that? How do you think?
I DON’T like winter because I have to get up in the morning when it’s already dark outside. But today I’m even a little happy about it. Perhaps I will be able to wake up the child early tomorrow and surprise him with such an unusual New Year's lamp. And at the same time take a couple more photos
