How to make animals from leaves. Drying autumn leaves for applications and preparing for work
Overlay applique. Try to start by coming up with pictures that do not require cutting out any details from the leaves, but are created by overlaying the leaves. You can come up with a lot of such pictures: butterflies, mushrooms, chickens and other birds... The missing elements can be drawn in with a felt-tip pen or made from other natural materials.
After practicing creating simple pictures, you can begin to come up with multi-tiered images. In this technique, leaves are glued on top of each other in layers. The application will turn out bright and cheerful if the leaves are different in color.
Silhouette applique. In this type of appliqué, excess parts of the leaf are cut off so that the result is exactly what the little artist intended.
Modular application (mosaic). Using this technique, a picture is created by gluing many leaves of the same or similar shape and size (or, for example, maple seeds). This way you can make the scales of a fish, the tail of a cockerel or a firebird.
Symmetrical applique. It is used to create individual images or entire paintings with a symmetrical structure, as well as to obtain two completely identical images (for example, reflection in water). To do this, you need to select similar leaves to get an image with its “reflection” or symmetrical in itself (“Butterfly”, “Dragonfly”, “Landscape with a lake”, “Boat on the river”).
Ribbon applique- a type of symmetrical applique. Its difference is that it allows you to get not one or two, but many identical images - ornaments. You get a whole “round dance” of trees, flowers, mushrooms, butterflies, etc.
Children are easily captivated by something new and interesting. If your child is already bored with drawing or modeling, you can invite him to start making crafts from bright autumn leaves. This process is extremely fascinating - amazing things are born from simple dried leaves with the help of glue, thread and other improvised devices. By taking up appliqué or making vases and bouquets, the child will not only be able to develop his creative skills and imagination, but also get to know each other better. environment. Collecting a herbarium together for crafts is an excellent opportunity to teach your child to distinguish between different tree species. So, what can you make from leaves?
Preparing leaves for crafts
To make any craft from leaves, you only need well-dried material; fresh leaves are not suitable. Preparing the leaves takes a long time, so you will have to be patient. In addition, the material needs to be dried correctly, here are the basic rules:
- If the evenness of the leaves is not important for the craft, they can be placed in a spacious container (for example, a large wicker basket) and leave in the fresh air. This will allow the leaves to dry quickly and allow air circulation to prevent mold from developing.
- To get perfectly smooth leaves, you need to place them between book pages or album sheets under a press. Carefully place the material between the sheets of books or albums. It will take at least 14 days for the material to completely dry and be ready for use.
- If you don't want to wait a long time, you can use a special herbarium press. To do this, fold a stack of leaves, alternating each layer with newsprint or unnecessary sheets. In a few days, the material for the crafts will be ready.

This is one of the ways to dry leaves, which can then be used for application. In order not to accidentally stain the book, we cover each sheet on both sides with regular paper napkin. If you have old unnecessary magazines, then dry them directly in them! The disadvantage of this method is that it takes time to dry the sheet.
The second way to prepare leaves for application. Or you can specially dry the leaves under an iron. This is very quick way. We put it on large leaf paper, our autumn leaf, on top of it - another sheet of paper (newspaper) and dry it - iron the sheet with an iron. Then lift the top sheet of newspaper or paper, allowing the sheet to cool.
Design of the finished application from leaves: Place the finished picture under a press (heavy book) for 1-3 days. Then we place it in a frame (you can make it from colored cardboard or a candy box).
