DIY pendant: simple instructions on how to make a stylish and beautiful decoration. DIY pendant: your own creativity on a chain How to make a beautiful pendant with your own hands
The mosaic pendant is made using the wire technique. The main highlight of this pendant is its multi-colored pendants of all sizes and shapes. It is convenient to make this pendant from leftover materials, since its center can consist of beads different colors. It will take about an hour to create such a pendant.
Required materials:
160 mm thick wire,
800 mm thin wire,
13 ceramic beads (4 mm in diameter),
5 beads with a diameter of 8 mm,
13 different forms average size,
Tools: round nose pliers, pliers, wire cutters.
Step-by-step description of the work:
1. Using pliers, make a right angle at a distance of 3 cm from the end of the thick wire. Then use the pliers to bend the wire to make a loop and wrap the rest of the wire around the base.
2. Bend the remaining piece of wire from the loop by 45°, while moving approximately 2 mm away from it. This area will later be wrapped with thick wire.
3. Now let's move directly to the outlines. Bend the wire so that you get an oval, tapering at the top - something like a tear. Be sure to leave about 10mm of wire to secure it to the base of the loop. It is better to use pliers for this. Wrap the ponytail left in advance in step No. 2 around the 2-mm section. As a result, the end of this segment should meet the end of the wire twisted into a loop. Don't worry if the two wires don't meet perfectly as they will be hidden later.
4. Cut the thin wire to the required length. Wrap approximately 50mm around a thick wire between the loop and the top of the pendant. Using pliers, thread the wire under the existing turns so that it does not unwind in the future. But don't overdo it - leave a little space to secure another tail of wire at the end of the work.
5. Insert the smallest bead at the top of the pendant. Wrap a thin wire two or three times around the frame and thread it through the bead so that it holds firmly inside the pendant. Make sure that the wire is well tensioned.
6. For the second row, string one large bead, one 4mm bead and one medium sized bead. Choose beads that differ in material (glass or ceramic), shape (round or diamond-shaped) and shades. At the end of the row, wrap the wire around the frame, as was done in step five. Don't worry if there are still "holes" between the beads, you can always come back and fill those spaces later.
7. String one small bead to fill the empty space in the corner of the pendant. Wrap the wire on the rod between the two beads in the second row, thereby holding them together.
8. Continue stringing beads inside the pendant in a similar pattern. At the same time, pull the wire tightly so that the middle of the pendant does not protrude. After you place the last bead in the middle of the pendant, wrap and secure the wire to the frame.
9. Wrap the remaining wire tail around the frame several times towards the top of the pendant. In this case, the turns should not be too close to each other.
10. Fasten the rest of the thin wire to the top of the pendant near the loop. Make sure this part is not too bulky. Secure the end of the wire tightly so that it does not unravel in the future.
Now the pendant is ready and you can attach it to any beaded necklace. It will also look great simply on a leather cord or an ordinary chain.

The thinner the wire, the more elegant the product will look.
Talisman medallion made of natural stone
Have you been on vacation at the seaside or in the mountains and found an attractive pebble from which you can make a pendant? Or you can buy a stone; very beautiful and very inexpensive natural stones are sold in jewelry stores and at stone exhibitions. Most often they do not have any fastening, they are simply polished. To secure such stones on a chain, you will need 10 minutes of time, round nose pliers and thin metal wire.
We wrap the pebble with wire in any order, helping ourselves with round pliers. (In the photo this is an ordinary “tiger eye” from a souvenir store, which is worn “from the evil eye”). We make a loop on top and secure it. An exquisite neck pendant made of natural stone is ready.
You can complicate the product and make two hearts out of wire, as in this product from rose quartz, which is considered a love talisman. This pendant can be given as a gift for Valentine's Day.
Teenagers are very fond of the so-called “friendship pendants”, that is, paired medallions. It is believed that two paired things strive to unite, so their owners will be inseparable. The easiest way to make friendship pendants is from two identical stones.

Decorating at home like a mermaid from H2O
At home, you can make unique, very interesting jewelry if you make friends with beads, epoxy, wood, polymer clay, and leather. Having gained experience, you can independently make things at home that imitate well-known jewelry, such as the “Heart of the Ocean” pendant from the movie “Titanic.” This video will teach you how to make a pendant with your own hands, the same as the mermaid from the popular TV series H2O: Just add water.
Every craftswoman wants to please not only her home with new works of needlework, but also herself, dear people wonderful and unique jewelry. There are many types of jewelry, and not all of them are suitable as a gift for one person or another. You never know which earrings will be comfortable and not heavy for the future owner. It is also difficult to guess the size of a bracelet or ring. But the pendant is a fairly multi-purpose decoration that can be used as a keychain by men. All that remains is to decide what and how to make the pendant with your own hands.
Photo in accessory
It would be fun to make a pendant with a photograph, because wearing an image of yourself or a photograph of another person framed in an interesting style around your neck has never gone out of fashion. For such a pendant you will need:
- thin transparent plastic;
- two photographs;
- transparent glue “Moment”;
- lighter;
- chain;
- scissors.
Cut out identical rectangles from the photos. If you wish, you can cut them in the shape of a heart. We cut out two plastic parts of the same size and shape.
We carefully coat each photograph along its front perimeter with glue and glue it to the plastic part. After this, we glue the photographs to each other with the wrong sides.
Carefully melt the edges of the resulting workpiece around the perimeter with a lighter.
In this process, the main thing is not to overdo it, so that the plastic does not melt too much, and the photographs and glue do not start to burn.
The melted edges of the pendant are closed with links of a chain, which gradually sits on the glue along the perimeter. The pendant should dry for at least 20 minutes.
This pendant can be attached to the same chain or cord.
Clay decoration
Polymer clay is an excellent material for creating the necessary exclusive shape for a pendant. For a clay pendant you will need:
- clay of two contrasting colors;
- flat wire;
- cylindrical objects of different diameters;
- rolling pin (not wooden);
- pin-pin;
- acrylic varnish (transparent);
- a board made of plastic, ceramics or glass (for the role of a “workbench” in work);
- thin gloves (optional).
The first step is to create a part from wire. You need to make a bend in the form of a spiral at one of the ends of the wire.
Bending the wire on cylindrical objects, give its second edge a zigzag shape.
On a flat surface, the wire should be aligned so that all its narrow edges lie flat on the plane.
After warming up the clay of both colors, make two fragments, roll them out flat, after which they should be folded together.
After this, we roll the part into a spiral so that light shade was in predominance.
We bend the workpiece several times and roll it into a cylinder.
After this, you need to roll out a flat part from the cylinder again.
The wire part is placed on a flat piece of polymer clay, after which it is pressed well.
Excess plastic should be removed.
From clay of a shade darker than the second, roll a ball, which is pierced with a pin and attached to the top of the main part.
The baking temperature should be as indicated on the plastic packaging. After the clay has dried, it must be opened with varnish. The pendant is ready!
Art from scrap materials
You can also make a pendant from other available or purchased materials.
For example, for a pendant made of felt, you need to take four colors of this felt, cut from it one strip of three colors, 10 cm long or less, 1.5 cm wide, and 9 strips 7 cm long, 1 cm wide. We roll up these strips into tight rolls, and from three strips of different colors we fold one, which we roll into a tube.
When rolling the strips into rolls, you need to glue them with textile glue, then fold and attach the rolls to each other in the form of a flower. To thread one of the petals of the pendant ring, use a thick needle, which will push the felt fibers apart.
To make a leather pendant, you will need to cut out 4 oval templates from cardboard, one of which will be larger than the others. After this, cut out parts of the same shape from the leather, but leave a 1.5-2mm allowance on them to wrap it around the cardboard and glue the edges.
From light skin you need to cut out two strips, fold them inside out lengthwise and glue them together to make something like laces. We frame the pendant with one of the laces, and a cabochon or other stone with the other. From dark and light leather we make two decorative parts in the form of crumpled fragments. This can be achieved by smearing polyethylene with glue, placing a piece of leather on it and crushing it so that folds form on the skin.
We lay out the composition on a large blank, add leather elements to the empty spaces. Small details are also decorated with wrinkled leather and framed with laces.
We also form a “chain” from light leather, making knots on its ribbons. You'll get something like this:
The wire is perfect for weaving “Tree of Life” or “Dream Catcher” pendants. If it’s easier to work with a “tree” - you can independently fantasize about the number and bends of roots and branches - then for the “catcher” you can use the following scheme:
Creating a pendant is possible even from such unsightly items as old keys or coins. A key pendant is a regular key decorated with beads, rhinestones or seed beads glued to it.
Creating a pendant from a coin in the form bat- more men's work. To do this, you need a coin with a face value of 10 rubles, which should be cleaned with sandpaper. After this, a drawing of the mouse is applied, and a hole for the ring is made with a small drill. We knock out the middle part of the coin using a bearing and a hammer. We sharpen the inner edge of the ring and the outer edge of the knocked-out core. The design is cut out from the core, clamped in a vice, using a jewelry jigsaw and a diamond bur or needle files. After this, the middle is driven into place, into the ring. A ring holder is inserted into the pendant through the previously drilled hole, and the pendant is ready.

A selection of videos on how to create various pendants with your own hands:
The female half of humanity, at least most of it, loves jewelry. This is typical for ladies of any age; everyone wants to look attractive. A pendant on a chain will help to gracefully highlight the curves of your neck. Nowadays, many people are interested in handicrafts, creating jewelry for sale, as a gift, or for their own use. How difficult is it to make pendants with your own hands? Let's look at some of the available options.
What are pendants made of?
Any woman can afford to wear such jewelry, which is why the variety of these accessories is amazing in the variety of shapes, sizes, colors and materials. What do you use to create your own pendants? There are many options: plastic, wood, paper, leather, feathers, fur, fabric, stones, metal, beads. The first pendants were made from fish vertebrae, beautiful shells, pieces of amber and even fresh flowers. Nowadays, modernity dictates its own trends, and on the necks of girls you can even see jewelry in the form of a computer motherboard or a floppy disk. The imagination of those who make pendants with their own hands is truly limitless, which makes each of them an individual and original decoration.
Making a heart pendant
We can say that heart-shaped pendants are the most popular; almost every girl has such jewelry. Moreover, they are easy to make even for a novice creator. The most simple ways make a heart pendant with your own hands - weave it from beads or wire. This accessory will be a wonderful gift for Valentine's Day or any other holiday. To create such a bead decoration, you will need the beads themselves of different colors and sizes, a fishing line and a ring on which the chain will be attached. You can weave a simple red heart, a futuristic gold or silver one, the pattern can easily be found in a beading magazine. If you want to experiment, take a piece of felt and embroider a heart on it. You can fill the entire inside, not just the edging, sew or glue different sizes beads, artificial pearls, Swarovski crystals. Let all the elements match each other in color; the combination of gold, yellow and white looks very beautiful. At the end of the embroidery, cut out the heart and carefully glue the cardboard behind it to hold the shape. Place a leather layer on top of the cardboard, stitch around the perimeter - and the pendant is ready.
Weaving wire jewelry
Do-it-yourself pendants are made not only from beads. A fairly common option is a wire pendant. Those jewelry that are sold in stores are made of gold or silver plated, and for home creativity Copper or aluminum will do. Pendants of various shapes are made from wire. Thin wire is easier to work with for a beginner, and the combination of thick and thin metal thread will add zest to your creation. To work with this material, you will need wire cutters, solder and often complemented with stones, beads, pearls or wooden elements.
Stone pendants
You can also make pendants with stones, not necessarily precious ones, with your own hands. The easiest way is to find an unusual pebble on the seashore (or ask friends to bring it from vacation), make a hole in it and hang it on a chain. If you are not satisfied with this option, then use beading patterns that include
Covering (edging) a stone with beads is called a cabochon, and this is a fairly popular way of making jewelry. The cut can be made metallic using the same wire: let the flight of imagination, the combination of different shapes, the connection of opposites be a priority, without limiting you to standard patterns.
How to make a pendant with your own hands from plastic
Homemade sorceresses use a fairly pliable material for their masterpieces, from which you can mold anything, like plasticine. Then it will harden and keep its shape. To make pendants with your own hands from plastic, you will need:
- polymer clay of the required colors (or white and acrylic paint);
- thick polyethylene film;
- pin (the pendant is attached to it);
- glossy varnish;
- glue "Supermoment";
- rolling pin;
- sharp knife,
- stationery knife,
- textured stack (for example, a bundle of wire or toothpicks, a knitting needle);
- pliers.
You need to work on a prepared, flat surface; it is advisable to use disposable rubber gloves so as not to leave fingerprints on the product. The manufacturing process is similar to rolling, cutting, fastening different parts. You can make either one pendant or a set with earrings. Shape and color are your choice. To harden, the clay is placed in the oven for a certain time (according to the instructions sold along with the material).
Don’t let the question of how to make a pendant with your own hands face you. Just decide what kind of jewelry will decorate your neck and go ahead and try different options.
Often, in order to show our loved ones how dear they are to us, we are ready to spend any money on gifts. But it’s not for nothing that they say that the most expensive gift is one made with your own hands. A chain with a pendant symbolizing eternal love will appeal to both men and women. And if the chain with the pendant is made by yourself, the gift will be doubly valuable. In this article we will tell you how to make a pendant with your own hands.
How to make a pendant with your own hands: materials
- A piece of fairly dense, well-seasoned wood (so that it does not subsequently crack when drying). I had an apricot prepared for a musical instrument, but it had flaws and I didn’t mind using it for crafts.
- A sheet of brass, approximately 1.8 mm thick (the thicker, the longer and more difficult the cutting will be).
- The wire is brass, about a millimeter in diameter (I only had copper).
How to make a pendant with your own hands: tools
- A hacksaw for metal or wood (the larger the teeth, the rougher the cut will be and in the future it will take longer to grind it) - a jigsaw - a sharp knife - a set of needle files for grinding/straightening the edges after cutting (a small round, semi-circular, and medium flat one was enough for me).
- A portable drill (any portable drill will do, even not the most powerful and high-quality one) a drill no less thick than a jigsaw for wood, which we will use to cut out the inside of the heart; for convenience, you can take a slightly thicker one.
If you don’t have experience, it’s better to take a few saws for wood and a dozen or two for metal. Wood files are thicker, the wood is soft, and due to inexperience, they can be easily broken, but if you cut carefully enough, you can get by with almost no losses. Metal files are thinner, the metal is hard, the slightest distortion/excessive force will lead to breakage. The main thing is that it doesn’t fly into your eyes (we use safety glasses). In general, it makes sense to take a couple of sets so that you don’t have to run around for more later.
- Grinding wheel (do not take a cheap one, metal hairs constantly fly out of it during work, safety glasses do not help, the hairs get quite unpleasantly on the face, and because of this the circle quickly becomes unusable).
- Sandpaper of different grits for coarse and finer sanding. Two sheets were enough for me (one each P1200 and P220) and even had some left over later, but you can take it with a reserve, just in case
- To work with a jigsaw you need such a device.
About the retainer
If you don’t have a clamp, it can be easily made from plywood, nine millimeters thick (thinner ones will spring back, thicker ones will shorten the stroke of the jigsaw). We cut a rectangular piece of plywood about 12x30 cm, drill a hole with a diameter of about two centimeters in the center, then cut out a corner with a hacksaw. The fixator is ready.
1. Saw off a piece of wood of the desired thickness. I did about one and a half centimeters.
2. We fasten the clamp to the table with a clamp. To make it fit more tightly, you can place a piece of rubber between the clamp and the retainer.
3. Print out the drawing, cut it out along the contour, and carefully glue it onto the workpiece with PVA glue. We try to press firmly, but do not move our finger along the paper, only press down. Paper wet from PVA tears easily (not noticeably)
4. Drill a hole in the wing (preferably closer to the edge, so that you don’t have to go far with a jigsaw later). We pass a wood saw inside, secure it in a jigsaw, cut out from the inside along the white outline, you can get out of it by about half a millimeter, but no more, otherwise the inner brass part will dangle.
5. We cut out the heart along the outer edge - a heart comes out with a phoenix cut out inside (with straight edges).
6. Use a knife to add volume to the heart, cutting off all excess, trying not to cut yourself (see the patch on the thumb).
7. In the right place (from above, anywhere) we carefully mark with something sharp, for example an awl, the future hole for a wire ring. The diameter of the drill should be equal to, or slightly smaller by a fraction of a mm, than the wire; it can always be expanded later. We drill to a depth of approximately 5 mm.
8. We print out a phoenix on a printer, which we will cut out of metal. I had no other ideas on how to accurately transfer the design to wood and metal.
9. Cut it out and glue it onto a sheet of brass closer to the edge. There is no need to drill anything here.
10. Place the sheet on the clamp, carefully cut out the phoenix (we try to break as few files as possible). It should look something like this
11. Insert the metal phoenix into the heart. Doesn't fit? We look at why, how it rests and what, and we finish/file it with a file so that it fits. It is better to saw down the wooden part. Did it come in? Amazing! Now, using a portable drill with a grinding disc, we polish the phoenix to a shine and smooth out the sharp edges.
12. Using sandpaper (first coarse, then fine), we give the heart rounded shapes and bring it to the desired smoothness. Then use needle files or a folded narrow strip of sandpaper to smooth it out. inner edges hearts (which are in the shape of a phoenix).
13. Use sandpaper to make everything beautiful.
14. Bend a ring with a 5 mm tail from wire using round pliers.
15. Insert into the hole. Did it go in okay? Take it out. A drop of cyanoacrylate inside, then inserted again and fixed in the desired position. Let it dry for half an hour.
16. Carefully insert the metal phoenix inside the heart and secure it on the back side with cyanoacrylate in several places. Let it dry. We grab it again, on top, to form a thicker layer of glue.
17. We hang it on a chain or cord and wear it with pleasure or give it to a loved one.
