My teen romantic comedy turned out to be as wrong as I expected. My Teen Romantic Comedy Was Wrong, Just Like I Expected, My High School Manga Was Expected
very good stuff. a wonderful slice like the melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. True, there is an order of magnitude more melancholy here.
I'll start with the characters. I don’t know if this is a joke or where, but Yuigahama YUI, YUKINOSHITA YUKINO, HAYAMA HAYATO, TSURUMI RUMI, KAWASAKI SAKI, Shiromeguri Meguri, Hina Ebina and everyone else. lol. Well, while I read this a thousand times, I asked myself this question, but googling about it was a bummer. If anyone knows what the joke is, tell me, and if it’s just a pun, then so is the dog.
but back to the characters. Throughout all the volumes, each of them is revealed. This is the case when there are more than enough undertones. only the relationship between
Hayama and Yukinoshita
Well worth it, there’s a lot of food for thought hidden nearby
occasion, thrown either by Haruno or by Hayama himself
And this is cool, because... you understand in general terms what happened, 80 percent, but at the same time, much is not clear. This is where imagination, deduction and curiosity come into play. In fact, everyone here has their own skeletons in the closet and pitfalls, their own specific relationships with each other. This is quite interesting to watch, because... Everything is presented in an interesting way and gradually. everyone wants something of their own. someone wants to remain friends, someone wants
Some people don't want anything at all. everyone strives for their goal in their own way and thanks to this the heroes come to life, thanks to this oregir they differ from the mass of other works. It's hard to complain about the characters here, very hard.
Yukinoshita, although a closed person, is an interesting character because... there are things about it that irritate me and things that I really like. she has very nice features, even old-fashioned I would say. such as choosing clothes based on their quality or loving practical things, I also like her organization. I personally was touched by this. her love for cats is generally sweet, I’m a cat person myself and I understand her very much. the way she
meowed to the cat Hachiman
Made me experience an overdose of emotion, which, however, immediately passed when she returned to her former self
As for Yui, I like her the most for some reason. yes, she is a little TP, but she is so sweet, sincere and kind, damn it ^^ sometimes this is much more important than anything else
Well, Hachiman is Hachiman, he’s like war, he never changes. although I’m lying, it was his person who was subject to change more than anyone else if you think about it. especially in the second half of events. and yet, I didn’t end up in OYaSix and I’m still quite close in spirit
As for the plot, it is precisely thanks to the huge number of different subtexts and interlines, and other understatements, that each person can see something completely different here, and this is incredibly cool.
inattentive or just a viewer of the anime adaptation
He will only go through the main external events without going deeper, while the inquisitive will reflect and re-read different points ten times, getting to the bottom of the truth.
the essence of the plot development was initially in
development
Relations between the trinity of the volunteer club. and the main problem with all this is
Yukinoshita
And the addition to this misfortune is Hachiman. however, there would be no trouble, but
only one is silent and hides all her feelings, while the other is dumb and doesn’t try to find out anything, although he’s interested, it seems like it’s not for nothing that Ebina called him passive. the third simply does not understand what is happening between them for the time being. yes, of course, there is such a thing as tact, all things, but it would be possible to move your ass over the course of 11+ volumes and fuss about this. although at the end of volume 11, Yukinoshita seemed to “wiser up” a little. in a word, both Yukinoshita and Hachiman do not trust people. this is the foundation of oregairu
Events develop slowly, including all the misunderstandings that they themselves will stumble over again and again.
An undoubted advantage is that each volume is crammed with various kinds of references, either to anime, then to fiction, or to literature (less often). this really plays a role and helps bring Hachiman to life in his head as real person, not just an image

Annotation
Youth is a lie. Totally evil.
Those of you who rejoice in youth are only deceiving yourself and everyone around you. You look at everything through rose-colored glasses. And even when you make a fatal mistake, you consider it only proof that you are young.
Let me give you an example. When they get involved in a crime like shoplifting or public disorder, such people call it “youthful indiscretion.” Having failed the exam, they declare that school is not just a place to study. Hiding behind “youth,” they spit on morals and standards of behavior.
Indiscretion, misconduct, secrets, lies and even their own failures are just manifestations of youth for them. On their vicious path, they consider their failures to be natural proof of youth, and the failures of those around them are just failures for them and nothing more.
If failure is a sign of youth, shouldn't failure to make friends also be a sign of youth? But of course they don't think so.
Nonsense. All this is just the result of their opportunism. Which means it's a shame. Those who are full of lies, secrets and deceit should be despised.
They are evil.
In other words, no matter how ironic it may sound, those who do not rejoice in their youth are truly virtuous.
I decided to write this comment not so much because I liked this anime. So much because this topic is close to me. Here I will present considerations for both.
Initially, you should understand that the series is designed to occupy its own niche, and is not intended for a mass audience.
It is the stated topic that tells us this. An alternative view, the absence of a harem, hackneyed and popular cliches: the absence of unbridled “positiff”; standard set about friendship/team/strength of spirit; "boobs and fanservice." On the contrary, the narrative is very realistic, leaving behind the impression of a certain bookishness and immersion on the verge of presence. In a sense, this is the same real “life” that in anime is usually replaced with “sweet dreams”.
We, of course, will notice there that the moves are not entirely real and similar to the above - but exactly as many as should be in reality and exactly as much as the convention of any good work requires. Individual moves are directly subject to analysis, which makes them completely legitimate.
This is the key to understanding why it is not designed for mass. Unadorned reality is usually faded and uninteresting. The viewer wants spectacle.
Thus, there were two ways to make the audience wider.
One of them said “Bakemonogatari”. Concentrated aesthetic pleasure from the original video sequence, mannered behavior, unusual construction of words. And no less bright, non-trivial and fall in love characters. This is a bright form, but without meaning.
In other words, “Welcome to NHK.” The hikikomori hero, although he acts in the everyday world, captivates with his unusualness and distance from the ordinary viewer - he is also interesting to watch, like anime boxers, musicians... Abundant hallucinations and a thin romantic line also add charm to this anime.
But OreGairu did not follow these paths. Cutting off a significant portion of the audience.
Therefore, the only thing that the eye, waiting for vivid feelings and sights, can cling to is this main character, Hachiman, his behavior and his thoughts. In this he is almost unique and he is a cynic (and this is popular nowadays), and therefore he is the center of a boring and lackluster series as a whole.
This is where the watershed lies. Realism is a double-edged sword: the anime was lackluster in terms of form; but it has real content. Using the example of heroes, events and thoughts, it expresses types, has psychology and philosophy. And all this is projected onto the real world. Only people (and/or) more mature, more experienced, more thoughtful, more quality oriented can see this and enjoy it. Even more than others enjoy the form. See the depth in it, and the volume in the characters. Consider the subtle nuances of the plot and relationships, feel the joy of recognizing real things. Feel the tension boiling up in the episodes. This is the Target Audience. This is the niche of this anime.
And it just so happens that it is “loners” who more often, but not always, meet these requirements. More often, because deprived for one reason or another of ordinary human relationships, they compensate for this with development and reasoning; which further alienates them from their carefree peers and loops the process.
The solution here seems to be simple, start building relationships - and some actually succeed. However, in reality this is not always possible - sometimes it is not up to you. And it’s not always necessary - when people’s actions are unpleasant.
But there are also people who are different. And they are a minority by nature. These are introverts - inward-oriented people, they think well, but have difficulty building relationships. These are schizoids (accentuation) - real heavy artillery, people whose mind freezes out feelings, and who therefore have difficulty feeling and understanding people. These are talented people - special people. All these people have their own, different logic that does not fit into the usual format. Psychology knows this. However, there is a Format that the majority thoughtlessly sets: communicate, be a collectivist, have a lot of friends, have fun (for example, get drunk), don’t be a bore, and so on.
And they have only three options. The degree of severity depends only on the severity of the symptom.
~Break yourself. Strives for a general standard, but does not achieve it. Feel inferior and abandoned due to this. Envy those who communicate well and naturally; activity is high and popularity is great. It just so happens that such qualities are found not only in the marginalized, but also in good people. And due to failures, you gain uncertainty and lose faith in yourself. And if you are lucky, be a shadow of yourself, and be internally oppressed. This is called “changing yourself.”
~Stand up for yourself. This is a rejection not from the format, but from the people who bear the format. Not being able to achieve it, and not wanting to endure his “downtroddenness,” a person begins to highlight his merits and pass off his shortcomings and complexes as features. He already consciously separates himself from people as stupid, rednecks, and so on. He becomes embittered and withdraws internally. He begins to see and savor the underside of society. His views are negative. He himself is already moving into opposition to the majority.
~Finally – Accept yourself. This is the most mature position, and what’s nice is that both main characters, Hikigaya and Yukinoshita, are in it. This is a position of calm acceptance of oneself as “other”, with all its characteristics. Which no longer need to be corrected or internally justified. They live in parallel with others, and without particularly intersecting. This is a life alternative and ideological position. This is a different format – irreducible to the general. And irreducible even to the format of another single person.
Some people see Hickey as a downtrodden guy. And this is true if you look from the position of the majority. Look superficially. After all, according to this opinion, anyone who is not in company is weak or cowardly, unsure of himself. However, is this so? Once upon a time, Hikigaya’s worldview on society was formed from the fact that relationships with him did not work out. Therefore, at some point, he decided to simply “remove the problem itself” (we will hear these words from him in the series) and withdraw himself from society itself. He decided to try on the life of a “lonely bear.” He wondered: is this “flock” really necessary? Well, not to others, but to himself? From here he deduced the answer - that he could do just fine without her. And so that she does not cause unnecessary concern, simply do not enter into conflict with her. “You can’t change the world around you – that’s a lie.” This is the beginning of his opinion.
Having untethered himself from society, he acquired true independence and began to defend it. He does not obey the rules of society, he is a nonconformist; he writes to the teacher in the topics of his essays things that are unspokenly unthinkable; he scrupulously collects his experience of maintaining the status quo and does not succumb to the influence of others; even with appearance he doesn't pretend to be his boyfriend. It’s hard to even imagine that he could be “persuaded” into doing something contrary to his views. Having ceased to be a cog in the social machine, he began to make an autonomous machine out of himself. And when confronted with other cogs, he has something to say, and has the strength and courage to overcome unspoken conventions.
In general, he is really not bad, 3rd place in academic performance and good athletic abilities. And at the same time, it still should not be confused with hikikomori; he does not run away from problems into a fantastic dream world - on the contrary, he lives in the real world and adapts to it.
However, his gaze does have weaknesses, which Yukino did not fail to inform him about. “If you don’t change, your social level will become alarming.” Indeed, such a position leads to atrophy of sociality, which leads to complexes and uncertainty; At the same time, it is still impossible to achieve complete autonomy - which leads to certain problems in the future. However, “it’s not for strangers to tell whether I should change or not,” Hikigaya answers her in the very first episode. In the end, who else but himself knows what is best for him? And if he is really quite happy with everything, is it necessary to change? The format of singles is different from each other, just as they themselves are different. Answering these questions is not so simple.
Therefore, it is natural that Yukinoshita has a different opinion. Some call her arrogant, however, this is not so. She really is quite gifted beautiful girl, who, moreover, is accustomed to achieving the assigned tasks. These are naturally the center of attention. However, unlike her sister, she was unable (for some reason) to integrate into society. And this is precisely what became her fault, in the eyes of her peers. Envy and conceit could not allow her to accept her merits as a given - and therefore they simply perceived her as an arrogant upstart, eager to show off. We must admit that the opinion in such cases is as widespread as it is unfounded. Simply because they are - they are in the center; they don't need to show off.
Be that as it may, Yukinoshita, alienated from society, at some point decided that she had had enough and went on the offensive. She was a problem solver. She was blamed for her integral part (beauty and talent) and one day she simply openly and honestly admitted it. Following this, she proved it - in the style that we already know from the series: caustic and extremely honest. She is confident enough to directly say what she thinks. Be that as it may, she acquired her own style and at the same time, as a result of isolation, she became a loner. However, unlike Hachiman, he has an active position. Why did she even head the volunteer club?
But no, she is not arrogant - although sometimes unpleasant memories of her “friends”, who are really not very positive, slip away. Rather, she is simply self-confident. After all, she had never looked at either the redhead or the chairman with either disdain or superiority - despite their “ordinariness.” And she viewed the chairman’s mistakes simply as delusions, and not as a sign of dementia.
Through Hikigaya we see an alternative view of society; through his interactions with Yukino, he is revealed to the fullest. The third, Yuigahama, serves as a bridge between them and the ordinary ones.
Regarding the subtlety of the narrative and other things, I have nothing to add to what has already been said before me.
It is worth noting, however, one interesting element, which, admittedly, concerns schizoids, but is also suitable here (quote):
“It is for this reason that for a schizoid, a real treasure partner is a rather simple lady who, due to her hysterical nature, thinks out emotions and is delighted with his unusualness and brightness. She selflessly devotes her life to him and is truly happy. Another option is another schizoid of the opposite sex. They objectify each other and do not see any insult in this. Their worlds exist in the mode of parallel universes, between which strong diplomatic relations have been established.”
Yuigahama and Yukinoshita - types presented. True, I believe that in the next season everything will work out with the second one. Although it’s called what it’s called, that’s why I was initially ready to watch it just for the sake of art, not counting on anything in this regard. Nevertheless, the degree of increasing tension in the romantic branch makes it possible to count on its development in the future. And hope that, nevertheless, the ending will not be the same as in “Welcome to NHK”.
In the meantime, I’ll be biting my fingers in anticipation of the continuation of this definitely special and high-quality anime.
