Autumn is just around the corner - it's time to think about getting warm, and at the same time treating yourself to something delicious. Marie Claire and Starbucks have teamed up to bring you joy - we offer two recipes for unusual hot coffee drinks that you can make yourself.
Summer flew by almost at cosmic speed, it was hot, it was fun, in love, sunny, whatever else, but, alas, sooner or later the warm days end, and they are replaced by cool September. We have long evenings ahead of us cuddling with a blanket and our favorite book and, of course, with hot autumn drinks. How sometimes you want to treat yourself to something sweet on a chilly evening! Well, we have something to offer you for this occasion - two amazing coffee drinks that you can easily prepare at home.
Dessert Affogato
The first is Italian affogato. Ideal option for a cozy evening: two in one, coffee and dessert. Affogato, by by and large, this is coffee with the addition of ice cream, so it can easily be confused with iced coffee, but gourmets know that iced coffee is cold coffee with the addition of a few spoons of ice cream, but affogato is a real paradise for those with a sweet tooth. Ice cream is the base here, and hot coffee and alcohol are added to accentuate the taste.
Ingredients:
- 2 scoops vanilla ice cream
- ¼ cup hot espresso or freshly brewed coffee
- chocolate chips
- pinch of sea salt (eg fleur de sel)
- ½ tablespoon Grand Marnier liqueur (optional)
Place two scoops of vanilla ice cream in a glass and pour hot espresso on top.
Sprinkle chocolate chips on top. Add some sea salt and liqueur if desired. Serve and enjoy!
Americano con Crema
True connoisseurs of coffee drinks know that professionals use the word “cream” to describe the dense milk foam that forms on the surface of the drink. By the way, the “correct” foam should not work at all white, but golden-nutty, that’s when the drink can be considered a success. However, we are accustomed to the fact that “cream” is most often found on our favorite lattes and cappuccinos. We dispel stereotypes! This time you can prepare an Americano with airy foam. We are sure that it is impossible to remain indifferent to such a drink.
Ingredients:
For the orange syrup:
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup sugar
- zest of half an orange
For Americano con Crema:
- ⅓ cup 2% milk
- 1 tablespoon orange syrup
- 115 g espresso (we recommend Starbucks® Espresso Roast)
- 60 g hot water
- Demerara brown sugar (optional)
For the orange syrup, boil water, sugar and zest together.
Next, make the Americano con Crema: Blend the milk until foamy in a blender on high speed for two minutes and let sit for a minute or two.
Combine orange syrup, espresso and hot water in a mug.
To ignore the drop in temperature outside, you need to warm yourself from the inside. One of the popular drinks in autumn is coffee. It drives you crazy with its aroma and taste, and you can enjoy the aftertaste of the drink even more. for a long time. How nice it is when a hot glass of coffee accompanies you in cold weather and warms your hands.
For the correct effect, the drink must be prepared in compliance with all the rules. We are used to trusting the barista's cooking process (coffee preparation specialist - ed.), but what if you don’t want to run to the coffee shop, or you want to please your family as soon as they wake up, or surprise your friends who dropped by for a visit? There are several easy ways to feel like a coffee pro.
To ensure that your coffee drink turns out right (that is, aromatic and tasty) three simple rules must be followed:
- use bean coffee;
- only freshly roasted coffee beans - no more than 1.5-2 months from the first roasting date;
- coffee must be freshly ground - 5-6 days are allowed, because the organic matter of the beans is destroyed, they lose all their properties, and, except for bitterness and the taste of caffeine, you will not feel anything in the drink.
Recipe 1 - Affogato
You will need: a cezve (Turkish), a geyser coffee maker or French press, coffee, water, ice cream, spices and sugar to taste.
Cezve and French press are very common devices among coffee lovers. A geyser coffee maker is slightly inferior to them. We brew coffee using any method, keeping the proportion of 7-10 grams (about a heaped teaspoon) per 100 milliliters of water.
Recipe 2 - Moccaccino
This is the most common drink in the USA. To prepare it you will need any home coffee machine (that can froth milk), chocolate or chocolate syrup (topping) and milk.
Moccaccino is a layered drink. To appreciate its beauty and surprise your friends, it is better to prepare it in a glass glass with thick walls with a volume of 250-300 milliliters.
You need to warm up the glass so that it does not crack due to temperature changes. The first layer is chocolate, 20-30 grams will be enough. If you are using solid chocolate, you need to melt it until liquid. Then froth the milk and, using a spoon, pour it onto the chocolate along the side of the glass. Now you can make espresso. This will take about 5 minutes, during which time the milk foam will rise to the top, forming a layered drink. All that remains is to add espresso in a thin stream to the center of the glass. You should have four layers - chocolate, milk, espresso and milk foam. You can add grated chocolate or cinnamon on top of the foam.
Recipe 3 - Warm bumble
For those who love coffee without milk and are looking for a new taste. To prepare the drink you will need coffee, orange juice, honey or caramel syrup.
Coffee can be prepared in any way: in a coffee machine, cezve, French press, geyser coffee maker. It is better to use freshly squeezed orange juice; if you can’t make fresh orange juice, you can take one packaged with pulp. The juice needs to be heated, but not brought to a boil. Make coffee in a convenient way. It is also better to use a transparent glass. First add honey or caramel, then pour juice, about 2/3 of the total volume of the glass and add coffee. You can decorate with orange zest, a cinnamon stick or an anise star. Before use, mix thoroughly.
Recipe 4 - Coffee with garlic
Coffee with garlic and rosemary

This recipe is suitable for those who love experiments. To prepare you will need coffee, water, garlic, rosemary or thyme to taste.
The barista who came up with this recipe first experimented in a coffee shop with his guests. He made coffee with garlic, but did not say that there was garlic in the drink, and guests had to guess what secret ingredient the barista added. There were many answers: some said it was a fruit similar to mango, some said it was a sweet syrup, but no one guessed that the drink contained garlic.
« True love is the coffee you brew at home in the morning. Freshly ground, preferably by hand. With cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom."

We decided to talk about warming drinks that can easily replace coffee. This is in case, with the arrival of cold weather, your espresso norm exceeds the permissible limit or you get bored with your usual latte and cappuccino.
Matcha
Japanese green tea matcha (in Japanese “matcha”) is now experiencing a real boom, gaining popularity not only among bloggers and adherents healthy eating, but also among dedicated coffee lovers.
A cup of the drink will invigorate you for six to eight hours, but will not cause the “caffeine burnout” effect. If you practice the “a few espressos at a time to wake up” method, you’ve probably noticed that a short-term burst of energy is always replaced by fatigue. This won't happen after the match.
This drink is classified as a superfood, contains a record number of antioxidants, and they cleanse the body of toxins and block the feeling of hunger.
This tea is obtained from the tea bush. A couple of weeks before the “harvest,” which occurs once a year, the leaves of the plant are protected from the sun, preserving their freshness and rich color. They are picked by hand, steamed to avoid oxidation, dried (necessarily straight, because twisted ones produce another type of tea - gyokuro), cleared of stems and veins, and then ground into a bright green powder.
There are several ways to brew matcha. Koicha, a thick, rich drink for traditional tea ceremonies, and usucha, a more easy option, liquid, airy, with light green foam. But the true bestseller of fall is matcha combined with warm frothed milk.
Masala
Another Indian elixir of vivacity based on warm spices, black strongly brewed tea and hot milk, warming and invigorating.
In India, the drink is served in every home, although in its early days it was quite expensive. To increase their own income, Indian traders diluted tea with spices. Over time, this feature became key to masala. The traditional recipe also necessarily uses honey or condensed milk.
In the cold autumn season, masala will help not to get sick. The spices in the drink are natural vitamins, improve digestion and have a beneficial effect on the functioning of the heart.
But if you have stomach problems, you should not drink the drink in large quantities, as hot spices can cause spasms.
Rooibos latte
Another variation on the “coffee from tea” theme. Unlike matcha, rooibos has no caffeine and very little tannins. The needle-like leaves of the rooibos plant (a shrub belonging to the legume family) are used to produce tea: they undergo natural fermentation and are dried in the sun.
The idea to make espresso from rooibos came from South African coffee lover Carl Preterius. One day, Karl conducted an experiment and instead of coffee beans, he loaded herbal “tea” into the coffee machine. What followed was long development of the recipe. The result is the same Red espresso - rich, beautiful brick color, with a characteristic sweet taste and woody smell. The novelty quickly spread around the world, and many variations were invented based on it.
Rooibos latte is prepared with milk (cow's or vegetable), spices are added, and sometimes honey or stevia. The drink is spicy, aromatic, with natural sweetness. At the same time it relaxes and tones, helps to focus, but does not cause overstimulation.
Turmeric latte
Turmeric latte, or, as it is also poetically called, “golden milk,” came to the West from India and quickly won the love of followers of a healthy lifestyle.
Turmeric is part of the famous curry spice and is one of the main ingredients of Ayurvedic cuisine. The spice is known for its anti-inflammatory properties; it also helps cleanse the blood, improve the functioning of the digestive system and the condition of the skin. Curcumin in the root vegetable also reduces the desire to eat something harmful and prevents the accumulation of cholesterol.
Other medicinal spices are also added to the turmeric latte, such as dried ginger and cardamom, optionally honey and a shot of espresso. The resulting drink is a beautiful yellow color. Unfortunately, you can’t often find it on the menu of Kyiv establishments, but we are sure that this is only for now.
Cascara
Translated from Spanish, cascara means “peel.” The drink is based on sun-dried husks and a sweet pectin layer, which are obtained during the processing of coffee berries.
The first to start brewing cascara were farmers in Ethiopia and Yemen, who export almost all their coffee beans. For preparation, you can use hot and cold water, the result is an infusion with a pleasant, balanced taste, with notes of rose hips and dried fruits.
Despite its direct relationship with coffee, cascara contains an order of magnitude less caffeine, but is also rich in antioxidants and minerals.
Carob
Carob, the crushed bark of the carob tree, instantly became the star of “green” menus in restaurants and cafes due to its unique combination of benefits and taste.
It is used to prepare natural desserts and drinks that can be consumed by those losing weight, children, nursing mothers and even diabetics.
Unlike cocoa beans, this superfood does not cause the release of insulin into the blood, does not contain psychostimulants (caffeine and theobromine), oxalic acid and the allergen fromanine. At the same time, carob is naturally sweet and, in combination with milk, will be an excellent replacement for traditional cocoa and hot chocolate. You can cook it with vegetable milk, add spices - in general, experiment.
Espresso with freshly squeezed juice
Following the classic combination of “frothed milk + shot of espresso,” many versions of your favorite lattes and cappuccinos were invented, including those with the addition of fresh juices.
