The fashion for creating advent calendars came relatively recently, along with other overseas traditions. About what an advent calendar is and why you should start one - Irina Yakusheva.
...And again, Lent, no matter how much you read or think about it, passes in the work and pre-holiday bustle. Our children go to kindergartens and schools, and in the evenings we rarely sit with them in the mysterious light of candles, reading good stories. The end of the semester, we are preparing for tests and New Year's performances. I wish I had time to clean up, but still buy some gifts. “How to fast with a child? You can't have a TV, but can you give sweet gifts? But three more Christmas trees until January 7th - is this normal?
I just want to fill the remaining time with something, to celebrate the joy of the approaching Christmas a little every day. And the New Year - whatever one may say, it’s the first. And something simpler, but so that there is joy, and a surprise, and a reminder. After all, these are our ordinary children, who are becoming more and more difficult to surprise every year: pink ponies, princesses, fashionable construction sets and harsh transformers are piled on the shelves - they are still waiting for something...
The European tradition of the Advent calendar presupposes such tender care for every day of the child remaining until Christmas. Calendars are sold - these are cardboard boxes with chocolate for every day, or wooden houses with drawers where you can put any surprises yourself. But very often parents make such calendars themselves, and this is the same warm, sincere work, that genuine attention that our relatives so lack in the pre-holiday bustle.
Waiting calendar made easy
My first calendar for my three-year-old daughter consisted of bags of sweets suspended on a string: I wrapped the treats in colored paper found at home. Colored napkins, leftover wrapping paper, and foil were used. For variety, I glued together several boxes of colored cardboard. The sweets were simple: cookies, marmalade, tangerines. Despite its simplicity, the calendar created a sensation - all that remained was to remind the baby that the next day when she could cut off the bag had not yet arrived.
And how many other simple things can be used to create an original calendar: disposable cups, jars, envelopes. I've seen the idea of a calendar on a tray - if you have absolutely nowhere to hang something - paper cones, painted to look like Christmas trees, with a surprise underneath!
Advent calendar decorates the home
It can be considered the first festive garland. Bright, elegant, colorful. Brilliant, original, unlike any other decoration. Already on December 1, the holiday will begin to look into your home. The child will drag the visiting grandmother to this thing, and you will smile modestly: well, yes, we’ll spoil it a little, so what. And to the question of friends: “Oh, what is this?” - you can happily answer: “Yes, we are preparing slowly.”
Last year I made little mittens and boots from colored fleece. It took me one evening to do this, but now, I think, for several years (until I get tired of it), I will only buy sweets. However, homemade things have one mysterious property - for some reason you like them more over the years. That year I was in a hurry and thought about somehow improving our calendar later, but this year I didn’t even want to redo anything.
Calendar organizes
The room where you place your future calendar will quickly be put in order. Honestly, honestly, you will simply have nowhere to go. Well, even if not right away, you will still want to do it in the near future. By the way, this year, simultaneously with the calendar, new red curtains unexpectedly appeared, and a cute tablecloth with snowmen was immediately taken out - all this pleases the eye and creates pre-New Year comfort.
Besides, the calendar is just that - a calendar. The bag disappears - the day ends. It’s good if this helps you and your child discover in time that there are 10 days left before the holidays! The child chews sweets and asks every day when to decorate the Christmas tree? In general, with some important matters you won't be able to make it to the last.
Where would we be without development?
So we got to it. If you want your calendar to not only pamper, but also develop - please!
You can number the calendar, or you can simply count the surprises. How much was removed, how much was left. If the child is small, you can teach colors and numbers, write the days of the week and short poems about New Year and winter, and provide schoolchildren with not only sweets, but also useful things. Winter proverbs and sayings, folk wisdom, interesting quotes. Things to do for the day are not lessons, of course, but reminders of preparation for the holidays. Send a postcard to grandma. Complete the role for the play. Prepare holiday surprises for friends.
Advent calendar - simple and good gift. It develops not only children, but the whole family - emotionally. It will be great if older children eventually begin to participate in creating a calendar for the little ones. And I know one family where mom and children make another calendar - for... dad! And he rejoices like a child, receiving a little surprise every morning.
What if we don’t have time?..
We still have time. The calendar can be made three, two or even one week before the celebration. For the New Year or for Christmas. To do this, use the most simple materials: paper, paper clips, ribbons, napkins, glitter, jars of chocolate eggs, matchboxes. You don't have to make 31 or 25 surprises. Let even the “week” be pre-holiday and filled with new meaning.
At the same time, you can think now - what would you like for next year? Maybe something more complex and interesting will turn out. Cozy wall panel with pockets, a cardboard snow-covered house with drawers, and as surprises - not only sweets, but also interesting tasks for every day.
I will be glad if a holiday, a good tradition and good guests come to your home with the new advent calendar. After all, adventus is the “arrival”. A few days before the main Birth - it’s so simple, clear and close. So let's make them childishly memorable and important!
The most fabulous day of the year is about to come - New Year. The pre-holiday atmosphere is already slowly enveloping the whole world. Every mother has hundreds of things to do: decorate the house, choose, buy and pack gifts, congratulate relatives, think ahead New Year's table. Children have no less to do: write a letter to Santa Claus, make cards for grandparents... However, all this can be done together if a colorful, original Advent calendar takes up residence in your home. Its magic windows will help you organize all the important and enjoyable things that you will do with your child. At each window, your baby will have sweets, chocolates, small gifts and tasks waiting for you at your request. Today, choosing an advent calendar is a pleasure - there are a huge number of layouts for every taste. the site has selected 30 ideas for creating a “waiting calendar” that you can bring to life yourself (under each Advent there is a detailed guide to creating one).

Good day!
Today I took on a rather unusual topic for analysis. Some people may not even know about something like this and what they eat it with, ahaha))). Honestly, I myself learned about such a craft a couple of years ago and was immediately interested in the idea. Now I’ll tell you in more detail, if literally translated, the advent calendar is some kind of little cheat sheet or reminder that something very, very important will happen soon. For example, the most important event (date) in your life, Birthday or New Year.
Usually these things are done for children, and they play and wait with them. the right moments. But, I’ve even seen options for husbands, can you imagine?
We all don’t really like to wait, it just happens that way, don’t you agree? It’s precisely this little thing like Advent that will help us have more fun and count the moments. I suggest not buying it in a store, as many do, but making it yourself, using various available tools.
Well, let's figure it out together, choose the stencils and templates you need and like, then run to print and surprise your little children. I hope everyone, without exception, will like the selection, learn with me.
It turns out that such a number was invented in Catholic families; children eagerly tore off the sheet of paper and, having completed the task, received a pleasant surprise, such as fruit or sweets. Therefore, I propose to meet upcoming holidays New Year and Christmas with mysterious anticipation. Follow all the recommendations and you will definitely succeed.
After all, nothing is impossible, especially when children are already familiar with such calendars and ask for them again and again every year.
We will need:
- wrapping paper or scrap paper 6 by 10 cm (there will be a hem for the envelope on one side and the other 2 cm and 3 cm)
- scrapbooking paper, size 30 by 30 cm
- scissors
- rhinestones and decorations
- stationery knife
- glue or double-sided tape
- thread or ribbon
- felt-tip pen or marker
Stages:
1. First, you need to cut the required number of rectangles from wrapping paper, measuring 6 by 10 cm (determine the number yourself, prepare as many as you want to have envelopes).
3. Tie each envelope with thread or ribbon and glue it to scrap paper.
4. Decorate with rhinestones and sign the numbers on the envelopes, they will indicate dates.
Place tasks inside each paper bag, here is a sample, or come up with your own.
The next product is also incredibly beautiful and the author decided to create a calendar from ordinary bags. Which are also made by hand. Here you go step by step instructions in pictures.
Such bags will also decorate your home and give a certain mysterious look to the walls (you will see this later). They will need to be made from scrap paper in the amount of 31 pieces.
Then glue chips onto each copy. They need to be cut, want some samples?
Then use it for your health.
All that remains is the final touch, hang everything on tinsel and decorate it in some other stylish way.
And if suddenly for some reason it was not clear to you how and what is glued where, then please refer to this video.
Master class on how to make an advent calendar for children from paper (templates inside)
Well, we’ve come to some more work, the simplest and not the most difficult. Even schoolchildren can handle them. Well, and you, as parents or teachers, even more so.
Well, let's start with the craft, it will be in the form of paper ribbons, which you must thread on a string.
I have presented the templates below, but if you want, I can send them by email in PDF format.
No less interesting template in the form of a children's game with windows, carefully cut out the outlines along the dotted lines with a stationery knife, and attach a sheet with tasks.
Here’s another idea in the form of an adventure map; at the bottom you’ll have to make a chest or box for surprises.
Do you want it enlarged? Keep it up, some of you really asked, and dreams should come true))).
Here are ready-made samples.
Beautiful advent calendar for a child for the New Year 2020
The most long-awaited holiday that comes to us in winter and which all children look forward to. This is, of course, New Year or Christmas. So let's make the expectations even brighter.
To do this, you will need notes containing tasks. You can take absolutely any from this article, or take these.
Or these cards.
Some may find the empty ones boring so they can come up with the right games themselves.
So, fold the tasks into a tube and tie them with ribbon or thread. Place them in a jar and pull out one note every day.
After completing the task, glue cotton wool onto Santa Claus, or you can use cotton pads or crumpled napkins directly onto his beard in the form of a ball.
Here are a lot of templates for you New Year theme(Father Frost, Santa). Download any picture to your computer, paste it into Word and print. This one below is in large size, it will need to be printed on several A4 sheets.
Toddlers and slightly older children really like this activity, I assure you. After all, they are exploring the world!
If you have more than one child at home, then make two calendars at once so that there are no fights and insults.
Here are a couple more ideas, this is a wonderful Elf and a fawn.
The simplest thing is Adventik, when you need to paint over the desired date with a felt-tip pen. Catch the Christmas tree.
Or do you prefer a winter composition?
Friends, but that’s not all, I managed to find one cool option that will be of interest to preparatory or high school children kindergarten or students primary school. Here are the instructions.
If you still don’t understand who makes such a calendar, then now you’ll figure it out when you see this picture. It turns out that you need to print grandfather and a tear-off beard, request the text for the beard from me through the comments, I will send it to everyone for free by email.
- The beard will be made of two parts that need to be glued together, I show one part here (as you can see, the text is difficult to see, so ask, everything looks clear in the document, for some reason it shows here).
For very young children, such countdowns will be difficult, so I suggest shortening the days and waiting a week before the upcoming day.
Or you can even make a Christmas tree, on which you glue one paper ball every day.
As soon as the balloons run out, the New Year will begin.
Advent with tasks for schoolchildren
In a rather original way, you can imagine Advent in the form of houses. And it’s not at all difficult to complete them, especially if your child is in school and is 6-7 years old.
I have all the samples in the archive, unfortunately I can’t put them all in the article, they are in this form.
Or these little ones, I also have them in my archive, I found them in one group on VKontakte.
There is also a superb work in the form of cubes from which you can lay out a mosaic in the form of a Christmas tree.
And here are the tasks themselves, download and print them out. They are not difficult, and are suitable for absolutely all age categories (5-6 years), and even kids (3-4 years).
A pretty cool idea to create an advent calendar was published on the YouTube channel. Moreover, the creator shared his author’s work. I want you to watch this story too. Bravo!
Advent calendar made from matchboxes
You have no idea, but it's really cool! Such a thing is unlikely to stand on its own; as soon as children see it, they will immediately begin to question and play. In addition, the advantage of such a craft is that it will last you more than one year. That's for sure!
To begin with, I suggest you master the simplest option, click on the view button.
Now, as for more complicated work, you can design it in the form of a box or a funny house. Use your imagination, glue, scissors and scrap paper.
And now the master class, all the description will be immediately in the photo. So, what a job, friends!
By the way, you (if you are a teacher or teacher) can involve your parents in this matter so that they can later use such a miracle in kindergarten.
Well, how did you like it? I really like this, such a good idea, respect to the author. And here is another picture from the Internet.
Advent calendar ideas for kids
Well, we’ve reached some more surprisingly unusual options, I’d like to show you everything, but the note is not rubber-stamp). I collected everything that I haven’t talked to you about yet, so let’s go.
A wonderful and creative calendar would be an option using plastic cups. It will turn out quite voluminous. Look, you can take cups from under Rastishka.
Here is a set in the form of a locker.
For amateurs felt toys you need to make something like this in the form of stars.
Use any available means.
If you like this method of decoration, write to me and I will send you templates for the pockets.
The pockets will be in this format:
They even used clothespins, and it looked like a snowflake.
Or hang bags with surprise moments on them.
In the West, it is customary to make such calendars from socks or knitted mittens.
And if it’s a child’s birthday, then make his expectations brighter, for example, create a flower like this from lollipops. And pull out one every day, when they end, the long-awaited day will come. Great idea, isn't it?
And here is another option from kinder surprises (that is, their plastic cases).
Would you like another idea, wow, it’s light and at the same time cool, made from balloons.
This is the post for today, from which you learned about how to make an advent calendar and what it is actually needed for. Take note, because there are many holidays throughout the year.
I wish you all good luck, inspiration and patience. Click on the social media buttons, share your finds and write reviews and comments at the bottom of the note. Thank you all for your attention, and see you again! Goodbye.
The Christmas (or Advent) calendar is a special thing with which in European countries children and adults count down the days until the main holiday of the year. Today it is becoming increasingly popular in Russia. And an increasing number of people are making their own New Year’s advent calendar. Probably because the process of its creation also seems to bring the holiday closer.
What is an advent calendar?
As a rule, a classic advent calendar has 24 cells (Christmas in Europe is celebrated on December 25). The Russian equivalent already has 30 of them, because we are making a calendar for the New Year. Each cell contains a task or a miniature gift. For example, if you make a calendar from Christmas socks, you can put a lollipop, a tangerine, a kinder surprise or something else in each of them. The gift can be accompanied by a task that will be easy and pleasant to complete. You can make an advent calendar without gifts, but just with notes.
If earlier Advent calendars of this type were popular only with mothers who wanted to please their babies, today the demand for them is much wider. Many adults make an advent calendar for themselves just to decorate their home and remember to prepare for the New Year. Completing tasks brings back that same feeling of celebration - like in childhood. So if you have long lost the magical and pleasant anticipation of the New Year, make an advent calendar for yourself.
Where can I get assignments?
We decided not to be distracted from the main topic - making the advent calendar itself. If only because many people make it simply as mini-gifts for children. So we will post lists of tasks in our groups VKontakte and in Odnoklassniki in the coming days. There we will leave a list of possible (and, importantly, budget) gifts for every day, because many parents complain that they cannot come up with various gifts and are constantly repeated.
Join us, because in groups we will also publish tasks for children and adults daily. Get ready for the holiday with us!
How to make an Advent calendar?
Well, now let's get down to the main and most interesting thing. We offer you a selection best ideas and master classes for creating do-it-yourself advent calendars.
Matchboxes: 3 calendar ideas
It's time to start saving matchboxes now, because you will need as many as 30 pieces. Take a look at 3 interesting ideas advent calendars using them.
- Chest of drawers
The boxes are simply glued together. You can connect them with tape and paint them with a marker. Or cover it with beautiful wrapping paper. For fun, you can put numbers on the boxes and mix them together.
- Board
Draw any surface ( school board, cardboard, plywood, etc.) into squares. Put a number on each one. Place in each cell a box covered with beautiful colored paper. Decorate them with ribbons or buttons. To make opening the boxes easier, make small “tongues” out of paper.
Place the boxes on edge and fasten them in a row together. Gradually climb up, reducing their number. This way you will make a Christmas tree with a surprise, which you will then need to decorate with wrapping paper. For interest, the boxes can be arranged not in order, but mixed.
Advent calendars made from matchboxes can contain not only notes with tasks, but also small candies, chocolate medals, beads, etc.
Bags: 2 complex and 1 simple option
A super easy way to combine gifts and tasks into an advent calendar is to make one out of cute numbered bags.
We have already told you how to sew a bag correctly, so we will not dwell on this in detail. If you don't have that much fabric on hand or you just don't want to bother with it, sew 7 bags - a supply for a week. Next, simply cut out the numbers from felt (take stencils) and change them. The numbers can be attached to the bags with pins.
Burlap looks especially beautiful and cozy. It’s easy to work with, so it definitely makes sense to use it as a basis. You can tie bags gift paper, and then secure them to the horizontal spruce branch. Imitation New Year's tree can be made from tinsel.
You can choose any other material, and then simply hang the bags on strings or secure them with clothespins.
If you are too lazy to bother with sewing bags, sew simple bags for the Advent calendar. They can be hung using built-in rings or clothespins. Don't forget the numbers. You can put candy in each little bag: just tie it to a piece of paper with the task.
If you wish, instead of 30 or 7 bags, you can make only 1 at all, and then simply change the number on it every day. True, there is a little less interest. It’s great when you can see that there are a lot of bags, and each one contains a gift. If you put tangerines in bags, do it early in the morning so that they do not spoil.
Boxes
If your family loves ice cream, processed cheese, or any other food that can be left behind in plastic containers, this is the option for you. Even plastic yogurt cups will do. If you start saving them now, you’ll be done by December.
We connect the boxes together with threads or plasticine. They can be attached to a vertical surface or left on the table. Glue a number with the date on the lid of each box.
If you don’t have that many boxes, you can lay out 7 pieces per week or make them out of cardboard.
Cardboard gifts
You can make small surprises for the Advent calendar from ordinary cardboard and craft paper by placing a task or a small gift in each of them. It would be great to hang such a craft by strings in the room and cut a box from it every day.
As a basis you can take matchbox or simply fold the cardboard into a box. You can simply wrap the surprises in paper and accompany them with a task note.
Along with the boxes on this garland you can hang New Year's decor: Christmas decorations, nuts, gold coins, etc.
Paper bags
Perhaps this is one of the most simple options homemade advent calendar. Make paper bags from craft, wrapping or colored paper - they can be made in a few minutes.
Cut out a long rectangle, make small folds and connect along the edges. It’s impossible to put gifts in such bags - they won’t hold up. But for small candies and pieces of paper with tasks, they are suitable.
Clothespins and felt decorations will help you assemble the bags into the advent calendar. Make numbers using stencils and cut out stars or Christmas trees. Secure everything with glue and connect it with one long rope.
The bags can be decorated with hearts, angels, Christmas trees, and snowmen. Just draw them on beautiful paper of a different color and glue it to the central part.
Together with the advent calendar, you will end up with a very nice decor for the New Year.
Engine
If there is a man in your house who loves to tinker various crafts made of wood, the creation of an advent calendar can be entrusted to him. True, not everyone will decide to make 30 trailers. But you can have only 7 or, say, 5 - why not?
The locomotive consists of completely ordinary boxes that are placed on wheels. They can be painted or covered with paper.
If you don't want to make a train out of wood, replace the carriages with cardboard ones. Cut off the bottom of the milk or juice carton - this is the base for the trailer.
Cups
Ordinary paper disposable cups can also become the basis for an advent calendar. It will be great to find ones that are prepared specifically for the New Year and are already decorated in a holiday theme.
You can decorate the cups with your own hands. Bright stickers or applications made of beautiful paper are suitable for this.
Glue a piece of paper with a number on each cup. You can put small gifts or notes with tasks inside. For convenience and beauty, the cups can be placed on top of each other in the form of a Christmas tree.
If desired, you can replace the cups tin cans or any other ready-made containers
Take everything you have. The main thing is the cover, number and design.
Wrapping paper
If you decide to follow the example of most Europeans and give your child not one big, but many small gifts for the holiday, do it in the form of an advent calendar.
Wrap gifts in the form of candies, put them in boxes, make little bags out of them. It is best to take paper of the same color to make it more pleasing to the eye. Place a piece of paper with a number on each gift. You can also attach a label with the task: completed - you can open the gift.
Miniature town
Use cardboard, colored paper and tubes. Make different animals. You can also use cups. They would also make a very amusing menagerie.
Collect everything in one place. Label each item with a number. Roll up the paper with the task tightly and hide it inside the object (you can glue it). The hero who has already fulfilled his purpose in the advent calendar can move into the category of toys. Gradually the whole craft will “move” like this.
Envelopes or cards
If you don't want to spend too much time creating an advent calendar, you can make one from envelopes or cards.
Come up with the main part of the decor. If we are hanging cards or envelopes, it could be glitter thread, beads with pine cones or fir needles, twinkle lights, tinsel or something else. Attach the cards to clothespins or strings.
By the way, if you use clothespins, it would be great to make them decorative. Check out our selection of master classes: you will learn how beautifully you can decorate them.
Cards and envelopes can be made on decorative paper to make the advent calendar elegant.
Or you can even create a canvas from envelopes on cardboard white. Just add a little winter and New Year's decor.
